FIGURE DRAWING: YOUR CHOICE
Step 1- Warm up by doing some gesture drawings of 3 different figures you see in magazines. (divide a piece of paper into four sections)
Step 2- Choose one of person in a magazine who you find to be intriguing. Something about their pose/ stance/ body language interests you.
Step 3 – Do a gesture drawing of the figure you chose. (this is part of the creative process) Now play around with the composition, where in the picture plane do you want to place your figure? Use a sheet of paper folded into four sections and experiment with placement of the figure.
Step 4- Now that you know where your figure is going draw in the contour lines with a regular pencil. (ALL lines that make up the shapes that you see make up your person)
Step 5 – Get your style on! You may choose to use charcoal to complete your drawing by going over your sketched in pencil contours and then adding value (light and dark areas) to where you see them on your picture,
OR
You may choose do the drawing mixed media (you choose another medium) ex. You could try to use chalk on a dark sheet of paper (this allows you to add value in the opposite way that charcoal does – you fill in the light instead of the dark).
OR
You may choose to draw your figure with contour lines in pencil and then a thicker medium (marker or charcoal) then use acrylic paint to add value (light and dark) to your figure
