Press release from the Orland Arts Commission
Orland Fine Art sculptor Tamara Bonet is working diligently on the impressive lifesize Public Art Bronze titled “Our Hope and Heritage.” The sculpture depicts two children, symbolizing Orland’s respect for its proud past while embracing the promise of its bright future. It’s scheduled to be completed and placed in the city’s CentennialPark early in this coming year, 2018.
The small version of the bronze, which is called a maquette,
is now available for sale and will be viewed for the first time
at the OrlandArtCenter’s Artists Reception Friday, August 4th.
The maquette is 19” x 15” x 12” including the black granite
base. It’s a limited edition, and each maquette sells for $11,500.
The donation fund for the large lifesize version continues to fill. To help the donations along, from each sale of the smaller maquette, Sculptor Bonet has generously offered to contribute $2000. to the fund for the lifesizesculpture.
Tamara Bonet is not only an exceptionally gifted artist, she is
an honor graduate of OrlandHigh School, as valedictorian for the classof 1988. Arts Commission Chairman Rae Turnbull remembers Tamara’s reaction when she was chosen to create the city’s secondPublic Art sculpture.
“Tamara said she considered it an honorto be a part of adding beauty and grace to her own hometown.”Turnbull continues, “Tamara is typical of the support the ArtsCommission receives from this community. All of our projectsare funded completely by donations, large and small, by people who wantthe best for their city. That kind of community spirit makes our work a joy.”
Orland Historian Gene Russell was the advisor on the accuracy
of the clothing styles of young children who lived in Orland in
the early part of the century, so the sculpture is historically accurate in every detail. It continuesOrland’s historical theme embodiedon the City’s handsome entry sign, designed by the late
George Turnbull. “Proud History, Bright Future” are the words on that sign.CentennialPark will be a fitting home for the lifesize “Our Hope and Heritage” bronze.
Contributors to the project will have their names permanently engraved on aBronze Donor Plaque that will be placed beside the lifesize sculpture. Donation forms are available at the OrlandArtCenter, 732 Fourth Street and also at OrlandCity Hall. Donations are tax deductible. For more information, call 530-988-5758.
