Notices:

When a child is diagnosed by a medical professional as having an infectious illness and attended the center during the period when the illness was contagious, an exposure notice must be sent home. The notice will alert parents of the exposure and information about signs and symptoms to watch for that may indicate their child has contracted the illness.

OCCDA uses Hip on Health as exposure notices have been developed for the most common childhood illnesses. A master book in English/Spanish is kept at each center to use. Staff makes a copy of the specified exposure notice and put the original back in the notebook. It is the responsibility of the family advocate (HS/ECEAP) or Combination Teacher (EHS) to send notices home to all parents. A short cover letter should accompany the exposure notice that states:

Temporary Exclusion Due to Illness

Children with an infectious illness are excluded from classroom participation until the contagious phase of the illness is passed. This period of time will vary depending on the illness. Parent/Guardian receives guidance from his/her health care provider as to when child may return to school. Staff consults with the agency health professional, clinic or Health Department to determine the length of exclusion, as needed.

Cuando un niño ha sido diagnosticado por un profesional médico como teniendo una enfermedad contagiosa y ha estado en el centro durante el período cuando la enfermedad es contagiosa, una nota de exposición debe ser enviada a casa a todos los niños expuestos. La nota pondrá sobre aviso a padres de la exposición y les dará información sobre signos y síntomas para mirar que puede indicar si el niño ha contratado la enfermedad.

OCCDA utiliza HIP EN SALUD como notas de exposición han sido desarrolladas para las enfermedades de niñez más comunes. Un libro magistral en inglés/español es mantenido en cada centro para utilizar. El personal debe hacer una copia de la nota de exposición necesitado y poner la original para tras en el cuaderno. EXCLUSION TEMPORARIA DEBIDO A ENFERMEDAD

Los niños que tienen una enfermedad contagiosa son excluidos de la participación de clase hasta que la fase contagiosa de la enfermedad haya pasado. Este espacio de tiempo variará dependiendo de la enfermedad. Los padres reciben guía de su proveedor primario del cuidado en cuanto regresar a la escuela. El personal consulta con el profesional de la medicina de agencia, el Departamento de dispensario o Salud para determinar la longitud de exclusión, como necesitado.

Reportable Illnesses

OCCDA is required to report specific illnesses to the Health Department. The Health Department tracks potential outbreaks in the community. If an enrolled child has a “reportable” illness, the agency health professional or the child’s health care provider reports the illness to the health department, according to school/agency procedures. Refer to the list of reportable diseases in Washington State.

Reporting Communicable Diseases: See list of Reportable Illnesses below. Communicable diseases are reported to Okanogan County Health District by OCCDA: (HEALTH DISTRICT #509- 422-7140)

Note 1: If an outbreak of a vaccine preventable communicable disease or notifiable condition occurs, all children with parent signed exemptions are excluded from center program. OCCDA follows local health district guidance.

Note 2: Influenza is reported to local Health District if more than (10% of children and staff out ill).

Note 3: Center staff records number of children excluded from class due to communicable disease and illness, on monthly report.
