Assist with and deliver outreach session in Cardiff primary schools, events for children and families across Cardiff, and training and social events for project volunteers
Support internal & external communication about the project, including writing blogs & preparing promotional materials
Act as a wildlife ambassador promoting Cardiff’s parks, green spaces and wildlife to primary schools and families
Work in partnership with the City of Cardiff Council (the lead partner for the project) and a wide range of supporting organisations including Duke of Edinburgh, the University of Cardiff and Buglife
Undertake general administrative tasks including responding to public enquiries, taking bookings and data entry / Experience working with children & an aptitude to work and connect with young people
Experience of volunteering
Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to connect and engage with a diverse range of audiences
Strong planning and organisational skills and ability to prioritise
Enthusiastic/energetic attitude

Commitment: / The equivalent of 2 to 3 working days or 15 to 22 hours per week for six months.
Hours may be fulfilled through a combination of; full or half days in the officeMonday to Friday 9am to 5.15pm, work at weekends delivering events, and flexible hours working from home where relevant.
Why We Want You: / Looking to get some quality experience with Europe’s largest conservation charity, engaging children & families with nature? Fancy spending 6 months volunteering for a super exciting project engaging thousands of children with wildlife in Cardiff? We have volunteer internships from April 2016 – September 2016 and October 2016 – March 2017. We’re looking for volunteers to deliver wildlife workshops in primary schools, nature based activities for children and families in parks and greenspaces across Cardiff and support the daily running of a busy and exciting pilot project.
What’s In It For You: / If you’re looking for a way to gain valuable experience in the conservation sector focused on learning and community engagement, then this is the role for you. You will gain experience working for Europe’s largest conservation charity working in a team and supervising other volunteers, as well as increasing your knowledge of Cardiff’s urban wildlife.
It’s a part time, voluntary post for six months that offers a fantastic opportunity to acquire the training, skills and experience that will help you gain future employment in the environment education or heritage sectors. You will receive a personal laptop and dedicated workspace and build confidence in working with schools, children and families. You will also have the knowledge that the role you’ll be carrying out will be playing a vital part in inspiring young people about the natural world.
Volunteering with the RSPB will give you access to mentoring, training and advice from RSPB staff, including your line manager, as well as the RSPB’s internal vacancies and a reference upon successful completion of your internship. We’ll assist your personal development and progress towards career goals and encourage you to take full advantage of all of the personal development opportunities that will arise during the internship, including the chance to gain related qualifications to boost your employability. All costs associated with training and qualifications will be covered as part of the internship.

Notes: / -Please note that this is not a residential post and we will reimburse your travel expenses up to 25 miles
-This internship does not guarantee future employment with the RSPB, but interns are always welcome to apply for our paid vacancies. For obvious reasons, an intern would need to have proven themselves in their current role before their volunteering experience will assist an application for a paid post
