Background:

Dr. Jones develops curricula for homeland security/homeland defense, teaches graduate–levelin-residence and online courses in homeland security/homeland defense, manages consortia with other universities engaged in homeland security research, and administers grants in homeland defense. He teaches the first two courses, Introduction to Homeland Security and Interagency Relationships in Homeland Security and Homeland Defense, in the NISSC Certificate in Homeland Defense Program. Courses may be used for the MPA degree in the Graduate School of Public Affairs, the MBA degree in the Graduate School of Business Administration, or as electives for other graduate degrees. In-residence students primarily come from United States Northern Command (USNORTHCOM) and North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), both responsible for the defense of America, and industry associated with the robust homeland security and homeland defense community in Colorado Springs. Online students come primarily from Department of Defense, industry, and state and local government organizations involved in homeland security and homeland defense in the Colorado Springs and Denver areas and across the U.S. Dr. Jones previously served as Associate Professor of Public Administration with the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University, Adjunct Faculty with the Graduate School of Public Affairs at the University of Colorado, and Deputy Department Head of the Department of Political Science at the U.S. Air Force Academy. He has published in Public Administration Review, The American Review of Public Administration, Public Integrity Annual, and other journals. His book, Downsizing the Federal Government: The Management of Public Sector Workforce Reductions, examines organizational, managerial, and human resource dimensions of downsizing. Dr. Jones’ research interests focus on leadership, management, organizational, interagency relationships, and intergovernmental relations aspects of homeland security and homeland defense. He is a Principal with The Council for Excellence in Government.
