All three European countries were trying to establish colonies throughout the world that could serve as profitable trade centers. The more wealth that these trade centers brought in, the more powerful the sponsoring country would seem.
The more powerful the country, the more control they would have. North America was one example of gaining this wealth, power, and control over other countries of the world.

The Iroquois, because they were old enemies with the Algonquins, who sided with the French.
The Algonquins felt that the English provided a fairer price, selling their trade goods for a lower price.
