3-4 Black is awarding Liam Burgess the Black Knight for this week vs. Tualatin. Liam’s strong work ethic and constant improvement has made him a very valuable part of both the offensive and defensive lines. Liam plays nose guard and helps to anchor the middle on a very stingy defensive squad. By working hard at practice, and in games, he not only has made himself a better player but has improved the entire team. Terrific job Liam! 3-4 Black coaching staff
This week’s Black knight for 3/4 Grey goes to Cole Emery. Cole plays Left Guard for Sherwood Grey and has been consistently good for us all year. He has steadily improved throughout the year and really stood out this week against our toughest opponent, Lincoln White. Our team relies on Cole to pull on many of our plays and Cole does this job very well, allowing us to be successful on our plays we run the most, the sweeps and QB boots. Cole is also a team leader and a positive influence on the practice field. He always gives 100% and comes to practice and games with a positive attitude that rubs off on the other players. Cole has been a joy to coach this year and has definitely earned the honor of being Sherwood Grey’s Black Knight award this week!
”It is quite possible to work without results, but never will there be results without work." Our Black Knight recipient this week is a prime example of what hard work, perseverance and having a great attitude will do to lift a team up to the next level of success. On Saturday, October 23rd the 3/4 CARDINAL Knights of Sherwood pulled out a close game against Sunset 14-0. Once again Ian “The Grinder” Stormont was a key part of the game on both sides of the ball. Ian, who earned his nickname by turning his opponents into mince meat and wearing them down consistently drove guys down field with his powerful blocking at Tight End. Ian and his teammates opened up huge holes all day long at the line of scrimmage. The Grinder had an awesome day on defense at Cornerback as well. His containment and ability to turn ball carriers back into the teeth of the defense was another big reason why the Knights were able to compete. Ian is a great athlete and has a good attitude. There is no doubt The Grinder will be one to watch for years to come. We are so glad to have you on our team, Ian!
This weeks deserving Black Knight for 3/4 White is Michael Klapp! Klapp came to Sherwood just this year has been a consistent anchor to the left side of our line as the Left Tackle ever since. He is the perfect example of a player who gives everything he has on every play. Outsized most games Klapp makes it his mission to keep his blocks and get to the ball carrier on defense. Michael has been deserving of this award every week this season and it is our honor as coaches to give it to him as we head into our medal game of the season. Congratulations Michael you make the coaches proud!
The 5/6 Black Knight coaches are very proud to award this week’s BN award to Colton Pfisthner. Being a first year 6 grader has its share of challenges, especially with being asked to play the line, but Colton has steady progressed from the first day of practice. However, last week Colton took a huge step forward and things really starting clicking for him on what it takes to be successful. On Offense, Colton plays Guard and while he is usually one of the smallest linemen on the field he has been focusing on using his quickness off the line and low pad level to block much bigger players. On Defense, Colton usually plays the Power or Quick position and made some nice tackles last game. While Colton isn’t in for every play, he almost always makes plays when he is on the field. Colton is very quiet player, but has been fueled by a desire to learn the game and contribute to his team. He has truly been an awesome example that every player can show tremendous improvement is they make the choice to work hard, listed to their coaches, and play without fear. Great job Colton! Seeing you grow has really been for us this year.
5/6 Sherwood Cardinal, The success of the Running backs is gauged on offensive line’s ability to create running lane. This week Levi Klockars was our Black Knight, he is our Tide End, Levi played Tide End pulling on counters to open big holes and also had a great block to spring our running backs extra yards. Levi down blocked and reach blocked the defender in both gaps to perfection, he would then find someone to block down field. Levi is a very coachable player and exciting to watch as he plays his defensive Linebacker position. Levi on defense was usually in the back field disrupting the Beaverton’s offense for loses of yardage. Levi has intensity on defense, which he brought this week to both sides of the ball. Levi has impressed the coaching staff with his ability to quickly understand his assignments. Thanks for the great game you played this weekend Levi Klockars the 5/6 Sherwood Cardinal coaching staff enjoyed watching your intensity. Congratulations Levi for being 5/6 Sherwood Cardinal’s Black Knight for this week.
The Sherwood 5/6 Grey Black Knight award winner for this week is Dawson Burris. Dawson earned is way into the starting lineup this week on the Defensive line as our Nose Guard. He had a great game recording 4 tackles from that position. When Dawson was in the game, they realized they couldn't get through the middle so they tried to take it outside and through the air. That is a testament to Dawson's ability to disrupt the other team's offense from his position and cause headaches for the opposition. All season long, Dawson has worked hard in practice and he comes to play each and every day . Dawson is an extremely coachable player and a great person all around. His ability to give 100% all the time is a statement to the type of person Dawson is. Great job this week and congratulations on a great game from all of us coaches!
5/6 Sherwood White - This week’s Black Knight, Jack Johnson, is our Defensive Tackle and backs up middle linebacker. On the Offensive side of the ball, Jack is the most versatile guy on the line. We ask him to play every position on the line and he can without mistakes. Jack, it’s been a joy coaching you, again! Sherwood 5/6 White Coaching Staff
Sherwood JV White knew the Week 7 game against Beaverton Black would be a battle since both teams were 5-1. A big storm was brewing on Saturday afternoon and Beaverton came to our house with a huge line of stripers. Our offensive line had its work cut out for them and needed to step it up if we were to prevail. As expected when the fourth quarter ended, the score was tied 20-up. After each team was given a shot to score from the 25 yard-line (Oklahoma), JV-White walked away with the victory 27-20 and a standout player for the win was this week’s Black Knight – Christian Tofte. As a first year player, Christian has learned quickly the all important right tackle position. This week, he lined up against the biggest kids Beaverton threw at us and he made sure they were blocked out of the plays. It is these qualities of hard work and perseverance for which the Black Knight is awarded. Christian’s ability to learn the game of football, especially at this competitive level is something the JV White coaches have enjoyed watching. Congratulations, Christian! Next up–Hillsboro Blue
The week 7 Black Knight for Sherwood JV Cardinal is Logan Shelton. Logan plays Center for our team and his snaps are always a sure thing. Even in soaking rain on Saturday night Logan’s snaps were there every time. Logan protected the A gaps flawlessly for our running game which resulted in three touchdowns against a solid team. Logan’s defensive play was strong as well putting pressure on the opposing Quarterback making him rush his passes into incompletions. Logan contributed well to our 20 to 6 victory over Beaverton White. Great job Logan and the entire JV Cardinal team!
The Sherwood Varsity Black coaches are proud to name Brandon Wessels as their Black Knight for week 7. Brandon played a key role in Sherwood's victory over host Barlow, providing key blocks at the tackle position that helped spring running backs for over 400 yards of offense. On special teams Brandon recovered an onside kick amidst a swarm of onrushing Barlow players at a critical point in the game to secure possession. Through his aggressive defensive play Brandon has earned a starting position on the D-line and had big-time pressures on the Barlow quarterback that helped lead to 3 interceptions. Brandon brings a spirit of continuous improvement and dedication to his team that make him a benchmark for other players.
