Cemetery. In 1855, John and Catherine moved to southern
Michigan, and then to Warren Twp, St. Joseph County, Indiana.
The family was German Baptist Brethren. He was a successful farmer. In his early life he voted with the Whigs, and joined the Republican
party at its organization. He was in the armed forces. He
also lived for a time in Wisconsin and owned a farm inVirginia.

Mrs. Catherine Stroup.
Mrs. Catherine Stroup, of Warren township, died late Friday afternoon at her home after an illness of a few days, aged 69 years. She leaves a husband, John Stroup, and three sons, Moses H. of West Washington street, this city; George W. and William W., of Warren township. The funeral will take place from the Brethrenchurch in German township, Sunday morning at 11 o'clock, Rev. Daniel Hartman, officiating, and burial in the Brethren cemetery. A short service will be held at the home at 9 o'clock Sunday morning.

John Stroup.
John Stroup, a pioneer resident of Warren township, and who for years has been one of the prosperous farmers living near Lindley, this county, died at his home this morning. The funeral arrangements have not as yet been made.
Mr. Stroup was 78 years old and had lived in this county since 1856. He leaves two sons, one living in Clay township and one in this city.

By this my Last Will and Testament, I, John Stroub of Warren Township St. Joseph County State of Indiana do dispose of all of my worldly estate in the manner following: that is to say: 1st I have conveyed the East half of my three hundred and twenty (320) Acre Farm in Warren Township, to my son William S. Stroup, upon the agreement and condition that he pay off a mortgage thereon of sixteen hundred dollars ($1600), and certain other matters provided in said agreement, and that he provide for the support and maintenance of myself, and my wife Catharine Stroub during our lives and the life of the survivor of us, and to provide for all expenses attending our last sickness, funeral and burial, and it is the wish and desire of myself and wife that all real estate and personal estate that remains after our respective deaths be divided as follows fiz To be divided into four (4) equal shares and I give devise and bequeath to my son William S. Stroup one equal share. To my son George W. Stroup one equal share. To my son and daughter-in law, Moses H. Stroup and Susan Stroup, husband and wife, one equal share. To be held by them jointly by an estate of entirety and to be free and clear of all liens that might attach or affect their said interest on of either of them. And to the widower and children of my deceased daughter Ella Sheneman one full share, the said heirs being Washington A. Shenneman (widower) and Clyde and Vera Sheneman children of my said deceased daughter. I desire that in the divisions of said real estate that my son William S. Stroup may have his portion set off to him, in land adjoining and West of the farm myself and wife have conveyed to him as aforesaid if he may so desire and that Moses H. and Susan Stroup, may have their share set off to them next to that of the share set off to William S. Stroup herein if they so desire, and that my son George W. Stroup have his share in the North part of the West eighty (80) Acres if they so desire. and that all division be made upon an equal and equitable basis according to the relative value of each share to the others. No division of my estate shall be made until the death of myself and of my wife Catharine Stroub among my heirs as herein before provided.
My son William S. Stroup shall have hold and manage my farm, and have charge of the same, until the deaths of both myself and wife, before a division shall be made free of any charge of rent, he to pay the taxes for the use of it.
See of the rest, residue and remainder of my estate, real personal mixed, remaining undisposed of, is to be divided into four equal shares as aforesaid, in the same manner as above provided herein and to go to the same persons as herein before mentioned and to the descendants of such as may be dead-per (?).
I nominate and appoint my son William S. Stroup to be the Executor of this my last will and Testament.

Moses Henry Stroup.
Moses Henry Stroup, aged 78, of Constantine, Mich., died this morning in the home of a daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Balmer, 303 1/2 East Howard street, where he had been visiting the last five weeks. He was born in MichiganMay 31, 1856, and was married in 1880 in Niles, Mich., to Susan Gearhart, who survives him. He leaves another daughter, Mrs. D. Harmon, of White Pigeon, Mich.; three sons, John, of Constantine; Isaac, of Jones, Mich., and Frank, of Auburn, Ind.; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and a brother, William Stroup, of this city. The body will lie in the residence and will be taken at 1:30 o'clock Monday afternoon to Holy Trinity English Lutheran church where it will lie until the funeral at 2 o'clock there. Rev. William C. Zimmann, pastor, will officiate and burial will be in Highland cemetery.

He married SUSANNAH ELLEN JOHNSON 1879. Susannah was born
in St. Joseph Co, Indiana 26 NOV 1861. Susannah was the
daughter of WILLIAM ALBERT JOHNSON and LUCY A. SMITH.
Susannah died 11 DEC 1953 in Warren Twp, St. Joseph, Indiana,
at 92 years of age. Her body was interred 1953 in South Bend,
St. Joseph, Indiana, Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Susannah belonged
to the Ancient Order of Gleaners. George lived at 25242 Edison
Rd in South Bend, Indiana. "We used to go to Aunt Suzanne
Stroup reunion in Lydick, at what we called the Gleaner Hall.
The George Stroup I knew of then ran the famous blacksmith
shop in Lydick and later became welding etc. shop—stillthere."

George W. Stroup.
George W. Stroup died at his residence in Warren township last Saturday afternoon, aged 47 years. Besides a wife he leaves six children, Perry E. Stroup, of Long Island, this county; Arthur, Charles, Elmer, Lucy and Glen, all living at home. He also leaves a father, John Stroup, of Warren township, and two brothers, Moses Stroup, of this city, and Warren (this should be William) Stroup, of Warren township.
The funeral was held this afternoon at 2 o'clock from Fairview chapel.

Mrs. Susanna Ellen Stroup, Rt. 4, Lydick, died at 7 a.m. today in her home where she had been ill since Wednesday. She was 92. She was born in St. JosephCountyNov. 26, 1861, and lived all her life here. She was married in 1879 to George W. Stroup, who died in 1904. Surviving are two sons, James A. and Glen W., and a daughter, Mrs. Elmer Wood, all of Lydick. Friends may call in the Welsheimer Funeral Home after 4 p.m. Saturday.

I, SUSANNA E. STROUP, a resident of Lydick, Warren Township, St. Joseph County, State of Indiana, being of sound mind and memory, do make, publish and declare this to be my Last Will and Testament, hereby revoking any and all other wills heretofore made by me.
Item No. 1--I direct that all my just debts and funeral expenses be paid as soon after my decease as may be found convenient.
Item No. 2--I hereby request that money which has been advanced to me by any of my children for my financial aid be first repaid to each child in exact amount which was advanced less any reimbursements made by me.
Item No. 3--I give, devise and bequeath all the residue and remainder of my estate whether real, personal or mixed from whatsoever source derived, unto my three sons, Charles O. Stroup, James Arthur Stroup, and Glenn W. Stroup, and unto my daughter Lucy Stroup Wood, to share alike to hold absolutely.
In the event that certain of the brothers, or the sister, do not survive me, then the estate is to be divided equally among the survivors, and if only one child survives me the estate is to go to that surviving child.
Item No. 4--I hereby appoint James Arthur Stroup and Lucy Stroup Wood, my son and my daughter, co-executors of this my Last Will and Testament.

Pleasant Cemetery. Died of a heart attack? William was a
farmer. William and Mable went to the Chicago World's Fair on
their honeymoon. He and his father went to Holcombe,
Wisconsin for six years and were living there in 1919, but
then returned to the South Bend area.

William S. Stroup
William S. Stroup, aged 78, of 416 North Arthur street, died at 1 p.m. Friday in his residence after an illness of one month. He was born in St. Joseph county and spent his entire life here. On Nov. 19, 1893, in New Troy, Mich., he married Mable Etta Price, who survives. He is also survived by five sons, Wilbur and Theodore, both of South Bend; Jesse, of Weston, Ore., Russell, stationed with the army in France, and Louis, of Mishawaka. Friends may call in the Orvis funeral home Sunday. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

Mrs. Mabel Etta Stroup, 416 N. Arthur St., died unexpectedly at 11:45 a.m. Monday. She was born June 21, 1876, in St. JosephCounty. Surviving are five sons, Wilbur, Theodore, William and Louis, all of South Bend, and Jesse S. of Weston, Ore., 27 grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Clyde Weaver, of South Bend, and four brothers, Milford, of Elkhart, Ind., Alfred, of argos, Ind., John of Mishawaka, and David Price, of LaPorte, Ind. Friends may call after 7 p.m. today in the Orvis Funeral Home, Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the SecondChurch of the Brethren with Rev. Charles Stouder, pastor officiating. Burial will be in Mount PleasantCemetery. The body will lie in the church from noon Thursday until the services.
