The Dodge City Trail of Fame hit another milestone Thursday as the medallion honoring Errol Flynn was dedicated. In a short and informal ceremony, the Trail of Fame thanked local businessman Mike Burkhart and his wife, Mindy, for their strong support for local history and their sponsorship of Flynn's medallion.
The medallion is placed in the sidewalk in front of the Dodge Theater, where the movie "Dodge City,"starring Flynn had its world premiere in November of 1938.
In attendance for the brief dedication were Burkhart and his wife; Trail of Fame board members Pat Hamit, Don Steele, Sonya Hughes, and Jim Johnson; and Convention and Visitors Bureau interim director Ryan Carpenter.
There are currently 15 medallions in the sidewalks of the Dodge City historic district, with another four ready to be installed immediately. JAG Construction and Jim Coffin have donated the installation of the medallions, with work crews overseen by Gene Kirby and J.C. Huckaby. Recently two new medallions have been sponsored by Bill and Karla Miller. They are for pioneer doctor T. L. McCarty and Dodge City's last official U.S. marshal, Ramon K. House.
Many more medallion sponsorships are available, as are the beautiful 14-inch miniatures of the famous Wyatt Earp sculpture by local artist Mary Spurgeon. All proceeds go to support the Dodge City Trail of Fame and are tax deductible to the extent provided by law. For information on how you can help or for sponsorship opportunities, please contact the Dodge City Trail of Fame at (620) 561-1925 or via e-mail on their Web site at
