Library Rules (Effective April 1, 2001)
(1) Scope
1. All Institutional and Individual members of the NAB will be eligible for membership.
2. Anyone else interested in blind welfare may also be eligible.
3. Non-members of the Association wishing to join the library shall be required to be introduced by a member of the Association.
4. The Library is open to readers from all over India.
(2) Classes of Membership and Fees
The following shall be the various classes of membership:
1. Life Member: Any Institution/Individual can become a life member of the library by paying Rs.1,000 at a time.
2. Ordinary Member: An Institution/Individual can become an ordinary member of the library by paying Rs.250 per annum.
3. Casual Member: An Institution/Individual who is neither life nor ordinary member can avail of the reading room facility at the library by paying Rs.25 for three days. Books issued to such a member, will not be allowed to be taken out of the library.
(3) Deposits
1. Ordinary Members shall be required to pay a deposit of Rs.1000 which will be refundable on discontinuation of the membership.
2. In the case of costly/rare books, additional deposit as fixed by the Librarian shall have to be paid.
(4) Number of Books
3. Members would be allowed to borrow two books at a time.
(5) Time
1. Members in Mumbai shall be permitted to retain books for fourteen days only.
2. Members from outside Mumbai shall be permitted to retain books for twenty-eight days inclusive of the date of dispatch to the date of receipt, back at the Library.
(6) Fine
1. In the event of loss of a book, full price of the book will be recovered from the borrower.
2. In the event of damage to a book, the librarian will fix the amount to be paid by the borrower.
3. For overdue books a fine of fifty paise per day per book will be levied.
(7) Library Timings
4. The Library will remain open for issuing books during office hours from 10 am to 1 pm and from 1.30 am to 5 pm, on all working days, except 2nd and 4th Saturdays.
(8) Postal Service
Members from outside Mumbai may borrow books through Postal Service.
1. Postage on books sent will be borne by NAB LBMRC. Return postage, however, is required to be borne by the member concerned.
2. Books will be sent, and should be returned, securely packed under Registered Book Post.
(9) Membership Number
1. Membership cards will be issued to members. Mumbai members shall be required to present the card to the librarian at the time a book is issued to him / her, or to write the number when requesting books by post.
2. Members from outside Mumbai shall be required to quoted membership number when requesting a book by post.
(10) Reference Material
3. Periodicals, Pamphlets, Articles and Books categorized under reference material will not be issued out of the library.
(11) Correspondence
4. All correspondence shall be addressed to the Asst. Director, NAB Louis Braille Memorial Research Centre Library.
