Other Professional Experience: Myprofessional career has been devoted to public service, including managing public employment and training programs, public policy consulting, and working with United Way of Snohomish County and The Office of Children’s Affairs in Snohomish County on child care policy.

Education: B.A. University of Washington; Master in Public Administration, Syracuse University.

Community Service: Vice-President, Thrive by Five Washington; Previously: Board President, Center for Human Services; Vice-President, League of Women Voters of Washington; Chair, Seattle Commission on Children and Youth; Shoreline Community College Foundation Board; Shorecrest Site Council; Shoreline Rotary and others.

Statement: My primary focus in the legislature has been on education, including early childhood education, and human services. As chair of the Early Learning and Human Services Committee, I have worked to improve how state services are structured and funded, including child welfare reform, Early Start to integrate and improve the quality of early learning programs, and drug sentencing reform. My highest priority will continue to be the protection, support and education of young children, support for parents as children’s first and most important teachers, and assuring that families living in poverty have a hand up to a better life.

Statement: “Education” must be redefined in this state. Millions are spent on “education” each year yet King County, for example, is showing a high school drop-out rate of 32%. Why? Where are our tax dollars going? Beyond auditing “education” I will sponsor the following: 1) Term limits for elected officials. (2) A 1% for wounded warriors fund by setting aside 1% of the cost of capital projects. (3) Strengthen the recall law to remove an officeholder not only for cause but also for incompetence and law- breaking offenses.
