“I WISH YOU LOVE”…A MUSICAL JOURNEY… STARRING JAZZ DIVA GLORIA LYNNE PREMIERES AT TRIBECA PERFORMING ARTS CENTER
Gloria Lynne, a leading Jazz Diva for almost 50 years will bring you the “high notes”
And “low notes” of her life in a new “Musical Journey Concert” on Friday, Oct. 7th at 8:00pm at the Tribeca Performing Arts Center, 199 Chambers Street, New York, NY.
The show is aptly titled “I WISH YOU LOVE” taken from the title of her Million seller song from the 196o’s which was the first song by a jazz singer to cross over and hit Jazz, R&B, and Pop charts at the same time.
The evening of music will tell the story of Gloria Lynne’s debut and discovery by her winning the Amateur night at the Apollo Theatre in Harlem, night club performances, television appearances, Las Vegas Show Rooms and her recordings of over 40 albums. Miss Lynne will be accompanied by the renowned composer Roy Meriwether on piano, Vince Ector on drums, Leon Dorsey on bass and Gregg Skaff on guitar.
Over the years Miss Lynne has performed with: Ray Charles, Billy Ecktine, Ella Fitzgerald, Quincy Jones, Harry Belafonte and others as well as co-writing “Watermelon Man” with Herbie Hancock and “All Day Long” with Kenny Burrell. She has received numerous awards including: The Rhythm and Blues Foundation’s Pioneer Award, The National Black Sports and Entertainment Hall of Fame, Gloria Lynne Day in New York City, The National Heritage Award and the Prestigious Eagle Award given by Manhattan Borough President C. Virginia Fields. Her autobiography, I WISH YOU LOVE: A Memoir, (by Gloria Lynne with Karen Chilton) was published by Forge in 2000.
In the 60’s Gloria opened the famed Blue Note Jazz Club located in Greenwich Village.
She was also a regular at the Vanguard, The Village Gate and world famous Birdland.
Gloria continues to perform at the re-opened Birdland, the Hyatt Regency. Harlem Week and Lincoln Center.
This rare, timeless musical performance which will include, (along with her signature song “I Wish You Love”) other standards by miss Lynne such as “Soul Serenade”, June Night”, “I’m Glad There’s You” “Love I Found You” and “My Funny Valentine”, etc. The evening promises to delight Jazz Fans as well as music lovers of all genres…and especially will delight those “in love” or those who want to be!
