PSD LWML 2016-2018 MISSION GRANTS
Lutheran Braille Workers NLS Cartridge Conversion, Yucaipa, CA $10,000
Lutheran Braille Worker’s mission is to provide the message of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ to people who are blind or visually impaired. NLS format is another way to reach people with visual disability. These NLS cartridges will be given to people who are visually impaired Free of Charge.
Cornerstone Mission Project, Inc., Kingman, AZ $ 5,000
Cornerstone Mission is an outreach to the homeless and needy in Kingman, AZ, and a way to minister the love of Christ. The $5,000 mission grant will be used for hygiene products and to repair/replace the women and children’s shower room inside the homeless family resource center.
Zion’s Helping Hands-Food Ministry, Zion Lutheran Church, Blythe, CA $10,000
Zion’s Food Ministry assists local families with nutritional food and hygiene items. We’re an isolated community, with a high percentage of families living below the poverty level. Grant funding will allow us to expand our program and also purchase materials to minister to the lost and unchurched in our community.
Weekend BackPack Childhood Hunger Program, El Centro, CA $10,000 The grant money will provide weekend food for 55 chronically-hungry children for the entire 2016-2017 school year (36 weeks) through our effective Weekend BackPack Childhood Hunger Program.The 637 children who are presently participating in our BackPack Program are literally the poorest and most vulnerable in Imperial County.
“Reaching Families with Hope and Care”- New Life Pregnancy Center, Yuma, AZ $10,000 New Life Pregnancy Center & Family Ministries provides hope and care in Yuma, an at risk community. We believe resource centers are one way to respond to the command in Matthew 25:40. This grant is being used to help develop a new Family Resource Center enhancing outreach projects including free food boxes, clothing, and hygiene items for the Yuma Community.
La Mesa “The Table” Ministry, Christ’s Greenfield, Gilbert, AZ $ 9,600
La Mesa ministry provides a meal on Tuesday evenings to the homeless and Hispanic population in Mesa, AZ. After the meal attendees are then fed spiritually through the Word and Sacraments. Our grant request will provide a larger space to rent for more people to be fed both physically and spiritually!
Yuma Community Food Bank, BackPack Program, Yuma, AZ $10,000 The Yuma Community Food Bank, BackPack Program will alleviate childhood hunger. The allocated grant funds will be used to purchase new backpacks for the existing program and to purchase nutritious foods. 4 out of 10 children in Yuma County do not know where their next meal is coming from.
East County Transitional Living Center, El Cajon, CA $10,000
East County Transitional Living Center, a Christian ministry whose mission is to restore the homeless and lead them to saving faith in Christ. This grant will pay for a 2-year supply of Bibles and printing of Christ-centered Discipleship Training booklets to guide the homeless to a personal relationship with Jesus.
“Make a Joyful Noise” Music Ministry, Yuma Lutheran School, Yuma, AZ $10,000
“Make a Joyful Noise” Music Ministry includes 120 students, grades 1-8, who serve the Lord with gladness. They serve throughout the Yuma community at worship services, charity events, and nursing home visitations. This grant will enable the ministry to grow in number through scholarships, music supplies and needed instruments.
Hands of Christ Feeding the Needy, Our Savior’s First Lutheran Church, Granada Hills, CA $10,000
The Bread of Life Food Pantry allows us to feed the needy in the community with the word of God and provide them with a meal and some basic hygiene products. We would like to expand those we feed by taking food out into the community.
Raising the Roof: Expanding Early Childhood Christ Lutheran, Vail, AZ $10,000
Christ Lutheran Vail seeks to expand the ministry of Creation Preschool by making playground improvements and furnishing additional classroom space. Creation Preschool is the only Christian school in the Vail School District. These improvements will allow more families to be touched by the Light of Christ in their child’s education.
Redeemer Lutheran Church Food Ministry, Ontario, CA $10,000
God has blessed this ministry with food and people who love to share the word as they hand out the groceries. Our needs have grown with the ministry and we pray for assistance purchasing equipment, supplies, Bibles, and printed materials so we can meet the needs of allages.
Playground Equipment at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Sierra Vista, AZ $10,000 Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sierra Vista, AZ is adding a Family Center to their present facilities. With Sierra Vista’s ever expanding population of young military and Border Patrol families, funding is needed to provide a safe, fun-filled playground area for the Christ-centered family activities.
Future Leader Scholarships, Pacific Lutheran High School, Gardena, CA $10,000
PHLS provides a Christ-centered academic education, with Christian role model educators who focus on the faith formation and journey of each student. The value of a good education lasts a lifetime, but a strong Christian faith has eternal value. The $10,000 will be used to provide scholarships to new students.
Arizona Lutheran Outdoor Ministry Association, Prescott, AZ $10,000
Food, Folks and Fun! Kitchen and cabin upgrades at Camp ALOMA, Prescott, AZ. Christ-centered outreach and Christian growth programming are enhanced by excellent food experiences and personal comfort. When people gather in a special Christian environment to enjoy each other’s company and to glorify God, we fulfill His command.
Celebrating Recovered Lives, Christ Church Lutheran, Phoenix, AZ $ 5,400
This mission grant will assist ten leaders of the Celebrate Recovery Program to attend a CR Summit in CA for additional training so the program can be strengthened and expanded so other hurting people may have health brought to their bodies and minds and saving faith to their souls.
