Post title:Maintenance Technician (Electrical)

Based at:St Austell

Reports to: Site Services Manager

Grade/salary scale: CC 26

Hours: 37 hours per week

Holiday:25 days per plus Bank Holidays and Christmas close down.

GENERIC ROLE OF POST:

Working as part of a maintenance team of three people to ensure a comfortable environment for staff and students. To carry out electrical maintenance and repair work as required. To act as a competent person under the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 on the St Austell Campus But will cover Mid Locality as required. To liaise with external contractors and report on the quality of their work as requested.

Specific duties:

1Assume the duties of the competent person under the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989.

2Undertake any work associated with electrical installation and maintenance.

3Specify and order materials needed to carry electrical works.

4Advise on and/or undertake works of a technical nature which relate to electrical installations, and maximise the life of plant and equipment.

5As required, liaise with electrical contractors to enable electrical work to be carried out on College premises and snag their work, reporting on its condition.

6Advise on the preparation and implementation of a planned maintenance programme for electrical/associated works.

7Provide budget prices/estimates for works.

8Work flexibly with all other members of the maintenance team in all matters.

9Carry out General maintenance – (non-electrical) within your skillset as required.

10Work at all times within the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work Act.

11Undertake any training necessary to carry out the above duties and ensure the ability to comply with statutory legislation.

12Attend to call-out emergencies if required.

13Comply with the College Health and Safety Policy.

14Any other reasonable duties as directed by Line Manager.

Qualifications/Experience

  • Hold relevant Level 3 qualifications and at least three years experience of paid employment in similar areas of work.
  • Have previous experience in general maintenance
  • Hold current driving licence.

  • Be able to work as part of an established team.
  • Live locally to St Austell, within a 30 minute travel time.

  • To have worked within an educational establishment
