Scenario 1

North Korea is going to launch a test missile that they claim will demonstrate its capabilities to deliver a nuclear warhead that can reach the west coast of the United States.

Group 1 – Japan

You are within the reach of the missiles being tested by North Korea

Your standing army is limited to use only for self defense as part of the Constitution created for Japan at the end of WWII

You are allied with the United States

Group 2 – China

You are allied with North Korea and may defend them in the case of an attack

Your interest is maintaining your respect and power in the region; You view U.S. interference in your region as a threat and disrespectful to your growing strength in the region.

Group 3 – North Korea

You have been sanctioned by the United States economically

You receive aid from the U.S. as a way to bribe you into cooperating in certain ways

You are allied with China

You’ve acquired nuclear weapons

You are working on an intercontinental ballistic missile that can reach the United States and you believed you’ve achieved it

You want to be respect in the eyes of the World and gain leverage against the imperial U.S.

Group 4 – United States

You are allied with Japan

You supply aid to North Korea in the form of money and food

You are concerned about North Korea’s ability to get an intercontinental ballistic missile that can carry a nuclear war head.

Scenario 2

Your goal is to defeat ISIS while maintaining your interests in the region.

Group 1 – Russia

You are allied with Syria

You’re an enemies of ISIS

You are enemies of the Kurds

You’re a friend of Iran (who supports al-Assad)

Your want to keep Bashar al-Assad (dictator of Syria) in power

You want to eliminate opposition to Bashar al-Assad

Group 2 – United States

You want to defeat ISIS and view them as a threat

You want to bolster and help the opposition groups to Bashal al-Assad

You are allied with Turkey

You have provided aid to the Kurds who are helping in your fight against ISIS

By defeating ISIS you help Assad stay in power, so you must help other opposition forces to Assad

Group 3 – Turkey

You are allied with the U.S.

You want to see ISIS defeated

You want to see Assad (dictator of Syria) removed from power

You view the Kurds as a terrorist group

You consider Russia as working against your interests in the region

You support opposition forces to Assad (but not ISIS)

Group 4 – Kurds

You want your own country (you currently have none)

You have been fighting against Iraq, Turkey, and Syria for decades for your own territory

You are a minority group in Iraq; Turkey; and Syria

You want the Assad regime (Syrian leader) removed from power

You view ISIS as an enemy

Russia has been attacking you because you want to see Assad removed from power

Scenario 3

Iran is interested in pursuing nuclear technology. This technology may be for peaceful means (such as power) or for the pursuit of nuclear weapons.

Group 1 – United States

You are allied with Israel

You want to limit Iran’s ability to obtain a nuclear weapon

You believe that it may be reasonable to allow Iran to obtain nuclear technology for peaceful purposes (such as nuclear power)

Group 2– Iran

You feel restricted by the West in moving forward with your nuclear technology

You want to be a nuclear power and believe you should be able to enrich uranium to be used for whatever purposes you see fit.

You are allied with Russia

You have long standing tensions with the U.S. and Israel

Group 3– Israel

You are against Iran obtaining nuclear weapons at all costs

You are allied with the United States

You maintain a first strike policy against Iran should they proceed to obtain a nuclear weapon.

You are fearful and certain that if Iran obtained nuclear weapons that they would be willing to use them against you

Scenario 4

China is building artificial islands in the South China Sea and claiming them as sovereign territory.

Group 1/ 2- China

You are a growing regional power

You want to be respected

You have been building artificial islands in the South China Sea

Claims artificial islands are land owned by China and that International Law applies your authority to control the waters surrounding your artificial islands in 12.5 miles from the shore

Group 3 /4 – United States

Believes in freedom of the seas

Views China as trying to increase its power in the region

Wants to maintain your influence in the region and protect allies such as Japan

Does not regard creation of islands as legitimate territory belonging to China

You believe China is interfering with international waters by building artificial islands
