THE VOICE
Cast:
"Person"an actor who walks around the building up the aisle etc. (he can carry his script if he can't remember it). He can use suitable masks – he carries a flower (if he chooses).
"The Voice of the Bible" - Deep voice off stage (add echo or reverb if available).
Person wandering around.
Person:
I'm a happy person (use smile mask) because I'm a Christian. I go about living my life having fun and doing nice things,...... sometimes. (Hands somebody the flower) I give God a bit when I can. What's in my pocket in change that's OK, isn't it?
Bible Voice:
(Aside) Did you hear what he said? This is the bible speaking and while I usually speak to people's hearts this is a play, see …. OK, so I'm using the PA and this guy really needs help. Listen!
Person:
(Stops and turns)
Bible Voice:
Isaiah 43:1 “The Lord says ‘I have summoned you by name. You are mine’.”
Person:
That's OK; I know that, like I said, I'm happy.
Bible Voice:
But doesn't it make you think?Psalm 116:12 says“How can I repay the Lord for all His goodness to me?”
Person:
Well no, it doesn’t matter. I've got all I want.
Bible Voice:
Didn't you get it? The text asks what you are going to repay, give back.
Person:
(Turn mask – unhappy) Give back? Give back? Everybody's on about give! give! give! As a Christian I'm lucky I'm on the receiving end. I get, get, get.
Bible Voice:
You certainly get great blessings but remember 1 Ch 29:12“Wealth and honour come from You” and 1Ch 29:14 “We have given You only what comes from Your hand.” So I ask you again. What have you given back?
Person:
Ok, ok, I haven't given much ……

Bible Voice:
Listen to these words from God inMal 3:10 "Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse …. Test me and you see if I will not throw open the floodgates of Heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it".
Person:
The full amount of my tithes? You mean a tenth of all I have and all I get? …. Phew
Bible Voice:
And 2 Cor 9:7 says “Not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”
Person:
But I've got expenses, I've got needs, the job I've got isn't all that secure – it might turn out to be a sacrifice!
Bible Voice:
That's the only sort of giving that's good enough. Remember 2 Cor 8:3 talking about the Macedonians giving in their deep poverty.... “As much as they were able, and even beyond their ability.”
Person:
Alright, but that's all in ancient times. Why should I give today?
Bible Voice:
Because God has saved you now! Rom 5:8 says “God demonstrates his own love for us in this; while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. And Rom 5:11tells us “We rejoice in God, through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.” Out of gratitude that's why!
Person:
(Happy Mask) Yes you're right, I'm experiencing God's grace day by day because of what Jesus did for me and I'm grateful, truly grateful.
Bible Voice:
Then show it. James 1:22 “Do not merely listen to the word. Do what it says.”
Person:
I will,(Unhappy mask) but I can't give as much as some rich people.
Bible Voice:
That's fine, as the Acts of the Apostles says about the followers of Jesus. “The disciples, each according to his ability, decided to provide help”Acts 11:29; and giving was regular. “On the first day of every week, each one of you should set aside a sum of money in keeping with his income.”That’s from1Cor 16:2.
Person:
(Happy mask) OK, I've got it. Systematically, according to my means, regularly, sacrificially – and I remember, cheerfully too.
