Lesson Objective

§  Students will identify the different personages of “El Quijote”

§  Students will match the pictures of the personages with their physical descriptions and the cloths there are wearing

§  Students will create their own story using the different characters of “El Quijote”

§  Students will act their story

Objective Value

1.  Students will acquire use their prior knowledge to describe and identify characters of Spanish literature. As well they will be able use the descriptions to create their own stories/essays.

Prior knowledge

  1. Students demonstrate increasing fluency and control vocabulary
  2. Students are able to write in Spanish
  3. Students are able describe objects and pictures
  4. Students are able to listen for clues
  5. Students are familiar with the Spanish literature “El Quijote” http://www.quijote.tv/comic1.htm

Setting the Stage (5 minutes before class)

·  Teacher will have different visuals about “El Quijote” (The book, pictures, the map of Spain, etc)

Comprehensible input:

Materials

§  “El Quijote” characters flash cards

Listen (10 minutes)

  1. Teacher will present all personages to the class

Les presento a Sancho Panza el es gordo pero no es calvo. Él lleva un sombrero amarillo.” – “I would like to introduce Sancho Panza. He is chubby but not bald. He is wearing a yellow hat.”

  1. Teacher will distribute the cards to class, after she introduces the personage.

3.  Teacher will collect the cards from the students saying:

“¿Quién tiene al personaje gordo pero no calvo y que lleva un sombrero amarillo?” ______

Who has the personage chobby but not bald and who is wearing a yellow hat?”______

Teaching: (5 minutes)

1.  Teacher will make descriptions of students or objects in the class

“Juan es un joven alto, cabello negro, el tiene un suéter rojo. Juan es muy alegre y le gusta oír música.” - “Juan is a tall boy with black hair. He is wearing a red sweater. Juan is a happy boy and he likes music.”

At this moment teacher will include psychological characteristics in his/her descriptions

Guide Practice (25-35 minutes)

Materials

2.  “El Quijote” flash cards, pencils/pens, Bingo Game

  1. Teacher will divide the class into small groups. S/he will distribute the flash cards among the groups and will ask them to write the psychology characteristic of each personage.

* During this activity students would have to use their prior knowledge about “El Quijote”

  1. Groups will read the new characteristics and the other groups will guess who is the personage?

Independent Practice (90-120 minutes)

Materials

§  Writing paper, pencils, creativity, and imagination

  1. Writing activity – group activity – students will write their own story using the personages of “El Quijote.”

2.  Acting – group activity - students will act their story

  1. Search and writing activity – individual activity – students will search for a picture that shows an important event in the last five year. Then they will write about; they will have to write good description of the event, the people who were involved, etc. (Homework)

Evaluation:

Students will be able to get a total of 80 pts during this lesson

§  Participation 10 pts.

§  Writing assignments 45 pts.

§  Group Activity 25 pts.

As soon as the lesson is done, teacher should answer the following questions:

This lesson will take 1-2 period of 60 minutes.

After lesson:

§  Bingo Game – teacher or a student will read the descriptions for each personage of “El Quijote.” The winner will be the student who completes the table.

*In this activity students will need to pay attention and understand the descriptions in order to win the game

§  This lesson will help students to compare and/or contrast objects/people – students will use their descriptive skills when comparing/contrasting two or more people or objects
