Prerequisites: Algebra I, II, and Geometry Credit: Math

This course is designed to meet the fourth math requirement for graduation. The math course consists of seven mandatory modules:algebraic expressions, equations, measurement and proportional reasoning, linear functions, linear systems of equations, quadratic functions, exponential functions and summarizing and interpreting statistical data. Appropriate technology from manipulatives to calculators will be used for instruction and assessment. Students will have formative assessments daily, including group work, classwork, and homework. These assignments will be used to teach and prepare students for summative assessments, including tests, quizzes and projects.

Class expectations:

  • Do not wait to get help. I will be available daily before school from 7:55 to 8:20 should you need extra help. However, if you need help with the homework or classwork, make sure that you have at least attempted each problem before you ask for help; be able to explain where you started and where you got stuck. If you are absent from school, it is your responsibility to make up missed assignments. In the case of an excused absence, any missed work (including tests) must be made up within the number of days corresponding to your absence, plus one. For example, if you are absent for three days, you have four days from the time you come back to make up any missed quizzes, tests, or homework.

Academic Honesty:

Cheating is defined to be the willful or deliberate unauthorized use of the work of another person for academic purposes, or inappropriate use of notes or other material in the completion of an academic assignment or test. In addition to disciplinary responses, the granting of credit for this assignment will be null and void for all parties knowingly involved.

Strategies for Student Learning: Students learn math by doing math. In order to learn mathematics efficiently, the student must be prepared to learn from their mistakes! Diligent attention to errors (REWORKING INCORRECT PROBLEMS) will result in steady and significant mathematical progress. DO NOT IGNORE MATH ERRORS!! Each assignment is to be completed to the best of one’s ability. Solutions should NEVER just be a single number without some explanation for how you got that answer. No Work No Credit
