The Big Read Challenge- Together we can make a difference!
River Valley Middle School is pleased to announce that we are introducing an exciting literacy initiative in the Grand Bay-Westfield community called The River Valley Middle School Big Read Challenge!
It is our mission at River Valley Middle School to encourage students to “Work Together, Learn Together, and Grow Together.” Our goal for this initiative is to inspire our community to invest in our students’ love for literacy and learning.
The book we have selected for the Big Read at RVMS is called Egghead by Caroline Pignat. This is a wonderful novel about standing up to bullying and being a good friend. With all the work being done at RVMS to recognize Pink Shirt Day, and our emphasis on pro-kindness initiatives, we believe that Egghead is a good-fit book.
Our project is more than just reading a book. During the Big Read, students will be encouraged to write, discuss, blog and perform theatrical representations of the novel. We are also asking members of our community to play a part. Recently, RVMS students have become very involved with the Pay It Forward Saint John movement through acts of giving of their own. Now, we are asking members of our community to Pay It Forward by purchasing a copy of Egghead and donating it to our school, thereby Paying Literacy Forward. Once RVMS completes our Big Read project, we will Pay It Forward by passing our donated books on to another school, thus causing our very own Ripple Effect of Kindness.
All of this is possible with YOUR help. Buy a copy of the book Egghead, donate it to the Big Read, and help Pay Literacy Forward in our Community. Our goal is 400 copies of Egghead by the end of March. We know that with your help we can achieve this goal!
