The road leading to the tombs is guarded by the Tiger Hill on the left and the Dragon Hill on the right. It was a forbidden ground except for those who were officially in charge of its upkeep. It was not allowed to cultivate land, cut wood or to take stones from here. No one could enter it on horseback, even the emperor himself had to dismount at the gate.

The route to conquer the peaks passes by temples, shrines, pavilions, terraces, carvings, statues, food stalls and hawkers, that appear interspersed between the stark granite paths and forested margins.

18 Bends: The NorthernPeak, also called the Cloud Terrace Summit, is the first one you will have to confront on an assault on the mountain. Although the smallest of the peaks here, it still provides a great challenge to climbers due to its devilish precipitousness. There is only one path on the ridge that winds to the south, a place that is notoriously easy to defend. The route starts from near the JadeFountainTemple (Yuchuan si) and follows a winding path called locally the "18 bends". INSTRUCTIONS FOR MAKING PHONE CALLS IN CHINA

To make a domestic call within China:

When you are in China, you don’t need to dial ++86 which is the country code for China. This is only needed when you call from outside China (including Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau).

When you are in China, if you are in other cities like Beijing and want to make a phone call to Guilin, you need to add “0” plus the area code before the local number. To call 2887306, the local number of Sinoway Travel, for instance, you need to dial 07732887306, but only dial 2887306 when you are in Guilin.

If you are calling from another city, such as Beijing, to Billy Zeng on his cell phone (mobile) number 13978379708, which is registered in Guilin, you need to add a “0” before the number ie 013978379708, but only dial 13978379708 if you are in Gulin.

Usually you can tell the country and area code by the way in which we write our telephone number. For example, the phone number of Sinoway Travel office is ++86-773-2887306. ++86 is country code of China, 773 is the area code for Guilin. People sometimes also write their numbers in this way: (86773)2887306or (0773)2887306, but just remember that you need to dial 0 and area code before the local number if you are calling from one city to another.

To make an international call from China:

Before making an international call you should check with the operator or the front desk of your hotel to see whether the phone in your room is authorized to make international phone calls.. Most hotels do not open room telephones to international calls unless you ask them to do.

On the assumption that you want to call an American number “415 921 7000”, you need to dial “00 1” before dialing this number. “1” is the country code of USA, 00 is the international access number.
