Music History Composer Biography Project

Medieval, Renaissance and Baroque

Objective: Research historical information about a famous composer and present found knowledge to the class using available technology tools such as, Powerpoint, Windows Movie Maker, iMovie, Prezi or other similar presentation tools.

Task:

1.)Choose one composer from the list of choices below.

2.)Use print and digital sources to gather required information about the composer. Be sure to note sources for information. You are expected to cite any work or words that are not your own.

3.)Write a script that you will use to tell the class about your chosen composer. Your script should answer the questions listed below.

4.)Using pictures, video or audio examples, create a media slide show. Your script will be recorded over the images in a video editing program such as Movie Maker.

5.)Listen to at least three of the composer’s works. This will require you to be diligent and persistent.

Script

Your script should address the following questions and issues

  • The early life of the composer (facts regarding birth place, dates, family background, early education)
  • The composers major musical works
  • Substantial obstacles or challenges the composer faced in life
  • The role that the church played in the composer’s life or career
  • Why is it important that we study this composer today? What is your favorite piece of music by this composer? How might the world of music be different today if your composer had not chosen to write music?
