Grading Policy
· Coursework will be weighted according to the complexity and comprehensiveness of the assignment. Tests and quizzes weighing more heavily than daily assignments. Each assignment will have a point value, and final grades will be based on a weighted percentage according to the grading scale below.
· Tests that do not receive enough points to receive a “D” will receive 50% of the total points possible. Assignments that are not turned in will receive zero points. In some instances students scoring below 70% on an exam may be allowed to retake the exam for a maximum score of 75%. These retakes will be scheduled at the teacher’s convenience and may vary in format and structure from the original test. Tests subjected to modified scoring guidelines will not be eligible for a retake.
· Daily assignments may be turned in one day late for partial credit; No late work will be accepted during third trimester.
· Long-term projects (spanning one-week or more) may be turned in up to one week late subject to a 10% penalty.
· Extra credit opportunities may be assigned at the discretion of the teacher only when a student has completed every assignment on time to the best of his/her ability and is still achieving below 60%. Extra credit will not be assigned under any circumstances for students earning above 60%.
· If a student is absent on the day an assignment is due, he/she expected to turn in the completed assignment on the day of return to class. Students are expected to consult Schoology to obtain missing class work and homework.
· Students who are absent on the day of an exam should be prepared to make up the exam on the day they return to school.
· For absent students, the time allowed to make up work will be equal to the number of days of valid, verified absence; however, no extensions will be given for long-term projects. Some in-class work may not be able to be made up for credit.
