2015 Recreational Sports Co-Ed Indoor Soccer
Rules & Regulations
The Rec Sports Indoor Soccer season begins on Monday, February 2, 2015. All teams are expected to be ready to play on Monday. Games will be on Mondays and Wednesdays at 9:00pm and 10:00pm.
Eligibility
●Rec Sports Indoor Soccer teams are limited to 10 players per team. Any person affiliated with Earlham, ESR, and Bethany can play
●No more than 4 varsity players per team (2 Women’s Varsity, 2 Men’s Varsity max)
The Field, Players, and Equipment
●Each team must have 5 members on the field of play. Less than 5 members will result in a forfeit.
●There can never be 5 people of the same gender on the field at any given time.
●Minimum of 5 registered teams required to hold Rec Sports Indoor Soccer season.
●Games will be played in Trueblood Field house.
●Court setup
oTwo courts with goals on walls and at center near curtain
●NO CLEATS! CLEAN, dry shoes only!
●It is recommended that players wear shin guards.
●Rec Sports Supervisors will be responsible for:
oGetting equipment for the game.
oField setup.
oProviding a timekeeper.
oReporting the game score to Betty, or 571-264-6126, following games on the same day.
●It is the responsibility of EACH captain to:
oNotify all team members of game days, times, and locations.
oNotify all team members of these rules and regulations.
Periods, Time Factors, and Substitutions
Periods
●Each game last 40 minutes, divided into 20-minute halves, and 5 minute half time.
Timing
●There are NO timeouts.
●The clock will be a running clock, only stopping for half-time and injury timeouts.
●In the case of a tie, the score will remain at a tie.
●For playoff games ONLY a 5 minute extra period will occur in the case of a tie. If the score remains a tie after the 5 minute period “sudden death” will occur. This means the team that scored win and the game ends even if there is time on the clock.
●Games will begin at 9:00 pm. All rescheduling need to be pre-approved by Recreational Sports Intern or Director for the purpose of scheduling staff. It is the responsibility of team captains to contact and make arrangements. If any team is without enough players by 10 minutes after game time, forfeiture occurs by that team.
Substitutions
●Substitutions may be made at any time, providing the correct number of players are on the field at all times.
The Game
Start of Game
●The game shall begin with a captain’s meeting and a coin toss. The winner will select offense, defense, or what goal to defend.
●Beginning the game, the ball is placed on the ground at the midfield line. The team winning the coin toss will kick off and shall kick the ball forward at least its circumference. The defensive team should be 2 yds. Or 2 large steps from the ball.
●After the ball is kicked, the kicker may not play the ball again until it is touched by another player.
●At the beginning of the second half change sides. The team that did not kick off in the first half now begins with possession and kick off.
Scoring
●After a goal, the team that is scored on shall receive the ball and kick off in the same manner as the start of the game.
Playing Field
●There are NO offsides.
●If the ball cross the endline and is touched last by the attacking team a goal kick is awarded.
●If the ball crosses the endline and is touched last by the defensive team a corner kick is awarded to the opposing team.
●When a ball goes out of bounds we will play kick ins.
●NO ONE can enter the goal box.
oIf the attacking team steps in the box and it results in a goal, the goal is negated. If the attacking team interferes with the path of the ball in the box a goal kick is awarded to the defensive team.
oIf the defending team steps in the box and interferes with the path of the ball then a free kick is awarded to the attacking team from mid line.
Fouls
●Free kicks: when a team commits a violation the opposing team will receive a free kick. The ball shall be placed on the ground at the point of violation and put into play by a kick. Defensive players must be 2 yds. Or 2 large steps back from the ball. Free kicks are awarded for the following violations:
oIntentionally handling the ball
oDeliberate kicking of opponent
oTripping or jumping at opponent
oCharging, holding, or pushing opponent
oHigh kicks (all plays must be below the waist) and slide tackles
Sportsmanship Policies
No player, coach, or team follower shall:
●Use foul or derogatory language, threaten, or verbally abuse any other participant or rec sports employee before, during, or after the game. This includes trash talk.
●Participate in a game for which he/she is ineligible.
●Argue or talk back to the game official.
●Intentionally strike, push, or trip another person.
●Mistreat the facility, equipment, or supplies of Earlham College.
Fighting/Unsportman-like Conduct
●Any fighting will result in the expulsion of the aggressor and the forfeiture of 2 games by his or her team.
oFighting is defined as intentionally striking, pushing, slapping, punching, elbowing, tackling, or committing any other malicious act toward another person.
●Verbal dissent toward officials and supervisors; including but not limited to: vulgar/abusive/offensive language and body language, taunting will result in a 2-minute penalty of the team of the offending member.
oThe team whose member made the offense must play a man down for 2 minutes.
Slide Tackles
●Slide tackles are illegal in indoor rec soccer, NO EXCEPTIONS. A slide tackle will result in ejection from the game.
Warning/Ejection
●A warning/ejection system will be used to enforce the sportsmanship policy. Individuals will be issued a warning for unsporting behavior, unless otherwise indicated. A second penalty will result in an ejection. Ejections may be issued without warnings in specific situations.
●Team captains are responsible for the conduct of their players, sidelines, and spectators.
Tournament Play
●At the end of the regular season, a single-elimination tournament will occur to determine the Champions of Rec Sports Indoor Soccer. Seeding the tournament will be determined by standings at the end of the season.
