Description:

The prize is to be awarded annually to a student who has completed his or her Introductory Field Experience (IFX) in the Faculty of Education. Recipients will be selected on the basis of demonstrated excellence in their student teaching, an ongoing commitment to working with young people in either paid or volunteer positions (i.e. coaching, youth groups, tutoring, mentoring, etc.), and an academic standing of at least 3.0.

The Faculty Awards Committeewill make the selection. This committee consists of a representative from the Department of Elementary Education, a representative from the Department of Secondary Education, two Field Experiences Associates, and the Assistant Dean, Field Experiences.

Timing of Award:

The prize is awarded in September to a student who has completed the IFX in the previous academic year and is continuing his or her undergraduate degree program in the Faculty of Education. The successful applicant will be notified through Student Financial Support.

Application:

Students initiate the application after consulting with their Zone Field Experience Associate, prior to the end of the IFX,and with their immediate supervisor of their work with young people. The candidate is responsible to ensure that theFaculty Awards Committee receives their complete application package by June 1. The application packagemust include:

  • The completed application form.
  • A copy of theofficial watermarked IFX Final Assessment.
  • At minimum, two completed endorsements from the Zone Field Experience Associate and a supervisor of their work with young people who can attest to the quality and duration of their work. Theendorsements should be sent directly to the Faculty Awards Committee ().

Criteria for the award:

From the list of suitable applicants, the Faculty Awards Committee will select the recipient(s) for the award based on the strength ofthe endorsements receivedand the IFX Final Evaluation. Only applicants who submit complete application packages and who possess an overall GPA of not less than 3.0 on the last 30 credits of their program will be considered.
