3.1 Acro Development Officers Report -

The Acro Demonstration in June celebrating 10 years of Sharks activity was a huge success and was a first of its type, involving synchronised skiing by 6 skiers.

I have taken the opportunity of reduced numbers in the summer sessions to concentrate on the advanced Acro skiers with a view to preparing them for qualifying as part of the new generation of Acro coaches and some of their training has been with coaching in mind.

On September 9, Leigh Paley and Vicky Snape went with us to Kendal for a second session of Acro (the first was in January), skiing targeted at Kendal's young skiers. The evening was enjoyable, exciting and very successful, not just for the skiers but for Leigh and Vicky, who were very able in their delivery, demonstrations and handling of their groups. We are hoping that Vicky will be able to go on a regular basis and start her own Acro group at Kendal. Jean Lonsdale will be helping us with the arrangements.

I have written to Andy Bott who is manager at Bracknell Ski Slope to sk for a suitable weekend in either November or December for Mike and I to run the Artificial Slope Acro Performance Coach Award at his slope. So far, I've had no reply. Rang the slope yesterday, left a message and will ring again next week, when he is next in.

It was very good to see some of the Mogul skiers 'having a go' at Acro at the competition in Norwich. A light-hearted approach to freestyle has always provided great fun for skiers and viewers alike and is to be encouraged as well as the more serious side of competition.

I hope that the Judges Conference in October will be able to give us a little more insight as to Acro's position internationally.

3.2 Mogul Development Officers Report

There was a training camp in Tignes in July that was attended by a good number of the Squad members. The competition results achieved by our team members are encouraging. The first Saturday of September 4 members of the Kendal Ski team came down to Sheffield to use our water ramp facility, I now feel that this should be encouraged more, especially next year.

There was no trip to Eindhoven this year due to the ESC Troopers not being available. The cost of this trip without such help would make it not viable.

I am currently in the process of sorting out fitness training. By this I mean professional assessment of our squad members on a regular basis where suggestions on what they need to work on will be made and followed up.

During the month of August there were 890 visits to the Freestyle Website. I shall increase the amount of information that is available on-line as it would appear that more are using it as a valuable source of information.

3.2.1 Various changes were made to the Moguls Star awards, mainly of a trivial nature Chris to send out details. Martin noted that he has nearly finished getting the artwork for the badges finalised Action CB/MC

3.3 Aerials Development Officer

Sarah not present - no report available.

3.4 The FIS rules that we have so far just give types of slopes and general rules, but does not give an exact details of the judging requirements. We propose to wait until after the judges conference for more details (End October). Simon pointed out that a long delay would be unacceptable between runs. Action ALL

3.4.1 It was agreed that Simon Ashton should take on the role of Freeride Development Officer.

3.5.1.1 It was decided that a minimum 2 day first aid course would be required for coaches courses.

3.5.1.2 It was decided that coaches must have had attended a judges courses in the past 10 years. Once they have become coaches they must be revalidate as if they were judges (presently 3 years).

3.5 Officials training The judges course is setup for October - Please see 5.0 for details of next year.

3.6 It was agreed that there should be a form that all under 18's would need to get signed for the purposes of medical assistance while abroad for squad training. Chris is to investigate what Alpine do with perhaps having a blanket declaration that covers all squad training Action CB

3.6.1 Congratulations go to Chris David, Simon Bates & Martin Nankoo for their results in Australia etc.

3.6.2 There was concern over the conduct of Squad members while on training camps. Martin pointed out that it is impossible to prevent the younger members purchasing Alcohol, as it is perfectly legal for them to do so in France. However, it should be noted that Simon Ashton will be there and unacceptable behavior will have a detrimental effect when it comes to Squad selection. The Squad rules of conduct say that the immoderate consumption of alcohol is unacceptable.

3.6.3 There was more concern about the requiring permission from the parents to allow the their children out of the country. Martin pointed out that we are only arranging for transport from Geneva to Tignes and back, plus accommodation etc. What is not included is the cost of getting squad members from their home to Geneva. This is a matter for either them or their parents. Hence, we did not take them out of the country.

3.6.4 Martin to arrange a talk prior to the Tignes training camp for all those attending. Action MC
