X-Flex Bomb Blast Protection Tape

A novel PSA composite product is created to meet the need to protect buildings, people and equipment from destruction of a bomb blast and resulting shock wave. The new product is relatively inexpensive, portable and simple to install by untrained persons with ordinary tools and a set of simple instructions, it can be deployed anywhere in the world.

X-Flex is able to bond to the inside of exterior walls made of cement, concrete blocks and bricks for a period of three to five years. It is strong enough to protect the building from a blast caused by close proximity explosions. It is also able to withstand a second blast in tandem of the same. X-Flex tape has a composite material carrier with an adhesive coating of seven to ten mils thick with adhesion high enough to tear the cement from the cement block upon removal and with enough shear to hold a forty pound cement block in place for more than thirty minutes with no other support other then the adhesive.

X-Flex is fungal and mold resistant and constructed in such a way that it does not allow the blast to move the wall into the room more than a given number of inches depending on the blast size and it is able to protect the contents of the room from flying debris. The device would have to protect the persons in the room from the effects of the shock wave to include the noise level and pressures that could inflect bodily injuries.

The challenges and technical solutions of creating such unique product will be discussed in the paper and presentation.
