Notes from Meeting held on Friday 3 November 2017 at 12.30pm

Present:Neil Kenworthy (Chair), Allan Binding, Barbara Moody,

Michelle Griffiths (Practice Manager), Sue Spencer (Secretary)

Janet Barrett

1 Neil welcomed Janet to her first meeting of the PPG.

2 Feedback from ‘Health Awareness Day’ at Branston

Sue and Allan had both attended and reported that whilst the numbers attending the day had been low, it was worthwhile for those who did go. Washingborough Family Practice PPG had been invited to join with Branston PPG for the next time the Health Awareness Day is held and this will be discussed nearer the time.

3 Patients and Sexuality

The recent publicity surrounding the announcement that, nationally, all patients were to be asked about their sexual orientation was discussed. There was concern over how this would be implemented and about matters of data protection. Guidance from the CCG is awaited before any action is taken, although it is understood that implementation will be gradual.

4 “Patients Need Rest not Antibiotics”

Recent publicity over this national initiative to reduce the amount of antibiotics prescribed was discussed. It was noted that Washingborough Family Practice is very careful in the way antibiotics are prescribed, and are not given where they will be ineffective.

5 “Only the Lonely”

Sue, the Practice Nurse, attended the meeting to talk about her initiative which began five years ago to alleviate loneliness amongst some patients. The next event will be held on Saturday 3 February from 12.30pm to 6.00pm.

Staff members (including doctors) participate in this afternoon of food, friendship and fun with entertainment and a raffle, and members of the PPG were asked if they would support it by helping to set up the hall (Washingborough Community Centre) from 12.30pm, by helping with cups of tea or by clearing up afterwards at 6.00pm. Offers of help with food or raffle prizes would be appreciated. The theme will be “British” and everyone is asked to wear traditional British headdresses from any century! A prize for the best will be offered.

This was greeted with enthusiasm by members of the PPG and also with offers of help. Tickets £5 will soon be available, and posters will shortly be put up. People from Washingborough, Branston, Heighington, Canwick will be very welcome.

6 Date of Next Meeting

The next meeting will be held at Washingborough Surgery on Friday 1 December 2017 at 12.30pm.
