Overall Purpose of Job
To have responsibility for the effective implementation and continuing development of Management Information System hardware and software in schools/academies.
To provide MIS & finance support to schools/academies, working to ensure that such systems are appropriately maintained and applied by all staff to maximise their benefit.
To be responsible for the development and delivery of effective training programmes for school/academy staff.
To lead on the implementation & support of school finance systems, liaising with LA, HR and Payroll colleagues on matters associated with staff contracts and salary scales. Developing clear procedures and guidance to ensure schools keep accurate financial records that satisfy the latest LA and audit requirements.
Job Context
- The postholder reports to the MIS Operations & Account Manager
- The postholder has no line management responsibility
- The postholder may be required to work evenings, weekends and occasional public holidays, in order to meet service requirements.
Key Tasks and Accountabilities
Key tasks and accountabilities are intended to be a guide to the range and level of work expected of the postholder. This is not an exhaustive list of all tasks that may fall to the postholder and employees will be expected to carry out such other reasonable duties which may be required from time to time.
- To evaluate and advise on MIS & finance related hardware and software for schools and academies.
- To customise software to reflect the needs of schools, academies, LAs, DfE, and others.
- To install hardware and software, including implementing and configuring new systems as necessary.
- To prepare and implement suitable programmes of training for head teachers, senior staff, teachers and clerical staff in schools/academies, and also to provide training for newly appointed staff.
- To take the lead responsibility for school/academy finance software and specific SIMS modules or other MIS related software support.
- To prepare and maintain appropriate user guides.
- To provide full technical and software support for all users including the provision of a telephone help line service.
- To monitor the progress of users and arrange additional support, as required.
- To liaise with other sections in NPW and external stakeholders to ensure that systems provide required information and avoid duplication of data.
- Provide all users with technical and professional advice with regard to information management and finance issues or the purchase of additional MIS/finance related hardware and software.
- To attend sites in the event of system failures or site specific issues, identifying and invoking appropriate actions, as required.
- To act as the contact point with regard to third party contractors, including monitoring their performance against the contract standards.
- To survey new sites and determine suitable locations for installation, including interpretation of local health and safety regulations, as appropriate.
- To advise on the appropriate measures to be taken with regard to the physical security of equipment.
- Ensure that proper procedures are followed with regard to system security, data protection and financial audit requirements. Restoring data in the event of hardware failure or loss of equipment.
- Provide schools/academies with advice on appointing ICT staff, including interviewing when requested.
- To attend MIS Support team and IT section meetings, contributing to the organisation and development of the team/section, as required.
- Attend appropriate conferences and meetings, including school/academy governing body, finance committee or LA level meetings when requested.
- To keep section administrative records as required, including logging & updating helpdesk calls appropriately and keeping an online work calendar up to date.
- To have an overview of ICT Curriculum support to be able to advise and direct schools and academies, as required.
- To carry out any other duties that are in line with the purpose and grade of the job.

KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of school/academy operations and recent developments in Education, including statutory.
Knowledge of popular Management Information Systems used by schools/academies (e.g. SIMS, FMS, Integris, etc)
Experience of setting up financial processes and procedures in schools and academies and an awareness of related audit requirements.
Knowledge of personal computer systems and their use, including networking, telecommunications and fault finding.

QUALIFICATIONS:
A recognised School Business Management qualification or Finance qualifications. / Application Form

EXPERIENCE:
SIMS or FMS software experience
Experience working in or with schools/academies.
Specific financial management experience/ experience using & supporting specific finance software in schools/academies.

High level of numeracy and literacy skills, including the ability to read and assimilate a wide range of information and produce and present detailed guidance clearly and concisely.
