Why Do Septic Tanks Fail?

When septic tanks fail uncomfortable situations arise. Homeowners should take every pre-caution to avoid having septic tank system failures.

If the wastewater cannot soak into the soil under the septic tank drain field bed, there is a great potential sewage will back up into the system creating two very distinct symptoms, which are, wastewater puddling on the ground or worst yet sewage backing up into the house. You will note when flushing the toilet and if the water downs not go down, or if you hear a burp, burp, burp sound, this is telling you the septic tank or drain field is not accepting the water.

There are many reasons why septic tanks fail. These are just a few of those reasons…

·  Poor soil conditions.

·  A septic tank system that is not suitable for the home or waste water conditions

·  Excessive water usage.

·  A septic tank that is too small for the home.

·  If scum or sludge is allowed to escape out of the septic tank and enter the drain field, the pipe, sand, or rock may become clogged. And, if this does happen the liquid will not be absorbed into the sand. Why this usually happens is because the septic tank has not been pumped as needed. Unfortunately, this may lead to some serious repair bills that could have been avoided.

·  High water table & septic system failures.

·  Tree & shrubbery roots planted too close to septic tanks and drain fields can lead to serious septic tank or drain field malfunctions.

·  Physical harm to the septic tank system or drain field may lead to serious and costly repairs.
