JOB DESCRIPTION
Parenting Facilitator
Your Child, Your Choices project
Reports to: Early Years Development Worker
Department:Projects and Services Development
Salary Range: £1,200 per 10 week course. To be paid on completion of course delivery.
£40/hour for delivery of workshops/coffee mornings etc. (Usually 3+ hours)
To be paid after the event.
Hours:Weekends, and possible weekday evening work required.
3 hours per week for the 10 weeks course – this will include delivering ten 2 hour sessions/workshops and 1 hour/week needed for pre course delivery preparation and feedback after each session/workshop.
Location:To be confirmed as courses are arranged.
Attendance at two day training event is compulsory for this role(dates and times to be confirmed). Training is unpaid; however travel and accommodation can be arranged and paid for if required.

Main Purpose of Post
To deliver the NDCS ‘Being the parent of a deaf child’ curriculum to parents of deaf children, with the aim of increasing parents’ confidence with their deaf child and raising awareness of positive parenting. This curriculum could be delivered in the form of 10 week courses, one off workshops, coffee mornings or in any other format as required.
Key Tasks
- To abide by and promote the Society’s policy of informed choice, it’s vision and values and equal opportunities statement.
- To deliver the NDCS parenting a deaf child curriculum to families.
- To have good working knowledge of the NDCS parenting a deaf child curriculum.
- To be flexible and creative when delivering the course in order to meet the needs of the parenting group.
- To maintain regular/weekly contact with the Early Years Development Worker to feedback on any issues and/or raise any concerns.
- To submit regular/monthly travel and other expense claim forms.
- To understand and abide by the Society’s safeguarding policy.
- To work with a co facilitator, before, during and after each session.
- To work with volunteers, where available, in the delivery of sessions.
- To work with community language interpreters and BSL interpreters where needed.
- To attend any training sessions and/or meetings as necessary.
- To assist in the collection of evaluation information and to contribute to the evaluation process.
This list of tasks is not exhaustive and will be reviewed from time to time in discussion with the post holder.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential Skills and Experience
- To have some experience of facilitating or delivering training in a paid or voluntary capacity (parenting courses, workshops, seminars etc)
- To have some connection with deaf/disabled children (in a parental or professional capacity).
- To live/be able to travel to at least one of the following areas:
- Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire and Morayshire
- Tayside and Fife
-Forth Valley
-North and South Lanarkshire.
- Attendance at two day training is compulsory for this role.
Desirable
-Access to own car.
