Captain Planet Lives On at Mother Nature Network
The One and Only Eco-Superhero Still Has a Job to Do
ATLANTA – March 3, 2009 – “By your powers combined, I am Captain Planet!” is now being heard on computer screens all over the globe sinceCaptain Planet and the Planeteerswent live on Mother Nature Network, mnn.com, on February 25. Recapturing the hearts of past fans as well as becoming a calling card for a new audience, the world’s first and only eco-superhero is once again fighting the Earth’s foes online in more than 20 hand-selected,classic episodes. Special bonus footage, trivia and photos are also a part of the online experience.

Airing from 1990 to 1996 in over 50 countries, Captain Planet and the Planeteers hosts an array of celebrity voicessuch as Whoopi Goldberg,Sting, Meg Ryan, Martin Sheen, Ed Asner, James Coburn, Ed Begley, Jr., LeVar Burton, Tim Curry, Dean Stockwell, Helen Hunt and Jeff Goldblum Ted Turner created the cartoon in an “edu-tainment” format to educate and entertain children at the same time, informing them of environmental issues in a relatable way. It was his hope to inspire future generations to be good stewards of the planet and make a positive impact. Some of the topics covered by the show include climate change, conservation, energy, land degradation, nuclear issues, pollution, war, literacy, poverty and endangered species. The critically-acclaimed cartoon was also the recipient of numerous awards: three Daytime Emmy nominations, three Environmental Media Awards, a Parent's Choice Award, two Genesis Awards for animal issues programming, and a commendation from Peggy Charren’s Action for Children’s Television.The cartoon currently airs on television at Boomerang, Cartoon Network’s 24-hour commercial free network showcasing classic cartoons.
