PRODUCT SPECIFICATION FOR DIRECT CONTRACTS
Contractors will be supplied with a cutting specification at the pre-commencement meeting. The cutting specification may be changed at any time throughout the contract in order to meet customer requirements. All products must meet customer specifications. The Contractor will be provided with sufficient information to meet the customer’s specification. Where products / loads are rejected either by the Commission or the customer because they fail to meet the specification all costs associated with correcting the rejected products / load will be borne by the Contractor (this includes haulage, re-processing, lost production, management time).
A standard specification on a thinning site will be 1 x Sawlog, 1 x Bar, 3-4 fencing specs (stake, mini bar, rail) and chipwood.
A standard specification on a clearfell site will be 2 x sawlog, 2 x Bar (green bar and red bar) Chipwood and Tops (see Tops and Chipwood specification).
Products will be extracted to the Stacking Point by the Contractor and separated by specification as directed by the Commission.
Sawlogs – Sawlogs generally range in length from 2.4 to 4.9m. Green logs to 18cm TDUB and Red Logs to 18cm TDUB. The district’s sawlog specification is detailed in ‘Sawlog Grading – Grading Guidance Notes East Anglia Forest District’. This is available on request and will be made available at the pre-commencement meeting.
Bars – Typically 1.7 to 2.5m long to 14cm TDUB, max butt 30cm. Either Short Green A specification as specified in ‘Classification and Presentation of Softwood Sawlogs (Field Book 9)’ or Red Bar specification (available on request).
Fencing – standard roundwood fencing specifications (stake, mini bar and rails). These vary according to the customer and will be detailed in the cutting spec.
Chipwood – Kronospan specification For all products the Contractor must ensure that:
§ Ends are cut square (not critical for chipwood spec).
§ Product stacks are free of foreign material – stones, soil.
§ Dead, burnt, split, cracked or rotten material is excluded.
§ Snedding is flush with the stem.
§ There is no significant track or roller damage.
