Public Art Commission Artist Brief

Residency - €30,000 (to include all fees and related artwork costs)

The purpose of the residency is to provide one artist, or a team of artists, an opportunity for a long term project based in the area. The artist/s would be expected to dedicate at least 2 days a week to the project over a 12 month period.

Artists from outside of Mayo are welcome to apply for the residency but must spend the minimum time in the area each week and engage fully with local people throughout the residency.

The purpose is to enable the artist/s time to develop new work, and dedicate time to research and development of new ideas.

It is hoped that a large number of people can be involved throughout the process in a number of surrounding towns and villages. The funding for this public art scheme has been pooled from a large number of smaller funds and all communities related to the funds should be approached and invited to participate. Full details of these groups will be made available to the successful artist.

The new artwork created over the 12 month period should culminate in a publicly accessible artwork, or series of artworks related to the area.

Applications for the residency should give a clear indication of the proposed process, timescale, community involvement, budget breakdown and proposed outcomes and how these would be experienced by, or presented to, the public.

The arts office cannot provide studio space but can assist the artist/s in finding space depending on individual requirements.

Competition Process This is a one-stage open competition. Artists will be selected on the basis of their submission.

Submissions must contain

  • Application form (included in information pack or accessed via Arts Service, under public art section)
  • Textual description outlining the concept of the project (max. 2 A4 sheet) Please see individual notes for each scheme for details of information required.
  • Supply minimum of 2 A4 drawings or alternative expressions to communicate the content of the project. (these can be in format of maquette/Audio tape/CD /DVD)
  • Fully developed costing
  • CV and relevant examples of previous work

If a maquette is provided it is the artist’s responsibility to collect it after the panel have made their decision.

Is é cuspóir na cónaitheachta ná chun deis a thabhairt d’ealaíontóir amháin, nó d’fhoireann ealaíontóirí, do thogra fadtréimhse bunaithe sa cheantar. Bheifí ag súil go dtabharfadh an t-ealaíontóir/na healaíontóirí 2 lá sa t-seachtain, ar a laghad, don togra thar tréimhse 12 mhí.

Tá fáilte roimh iarratais i leith na cónaitheachta ó ealaíontóirí ó lasmuigh de Mhaigh Eo ach go gcaithfidh siad an t-am íosta sa cheantar gach seachtain agus teagmháil iomlán a bheith acu le daoine áitiúla le linn na cónaitheachta.

Is é is cuspóir leis ná chun cur ar chumas an ealaíontóra/na n-ealaíontóirí obair nua a fhorbairt agus am a thabhairt do thaighde agus forbairt smaointe nua.

Táthar ag súil gur féidir le slua mór daoine a bheith comhpháirteach i gcaitheamh an phróisis i líon bailte agus sráidbhailte mórthimpeall. Tá an maoiniú don scéim ealaíne poiblí seo comhthiomsaithe ó líon mór cistí níos lú agus ba chóir teagmháil a dhéanamh le pobail uilig bainteach leis na cistí agus cuireadh a thabhairt dóibh a bheith rannpháirteach. Cuirfear sonraí iomlána na ngrúpaí seo ar fáil don ealaíontóir rathúil.

Ba chóir go gcríochnódh an obair ealaíne cruthaithe thar tréimhse 12 mhí in obair ealaíne nó ar shraith oibreacha ealaíona bainteach leis an cheantar a mbeadh fáil ag an bpobal air.

Ba chóir go soláthródh iarratais ar chónaitheacht eolas cruinn faoin bpróiseas beartaithe, scála ama, páirteachas an phobail, briseadh síos ar bhuiséad agus ar thorthaí beartaithe agus faoin chaoi a mbraithfeadh an pobal iad seo nó mar a chuirfí iad i láthair an phobail.

Ní féidir leis an oifig ealaíon spás stiúideo a sholáthar ach is féidir leo cuidiú leis an ealaíontóir spás a aimsiú, ag brath ar riachtanais faoi leith.

Próiseas Comórtais

Is comórtas aonchéime oscailte é seo. Roghnófar ealaíontóirí ar bhonn a n-iarratais.

Caithfidh na nithe seo a leanas a bheith leis an iarratas:

  • Foirm iarratais (i bpaca faisnéise nó faighte via Arts Service, faoi Public Art.
  • Tuairisc théacsúil ag soláthar breac-chuntais faoi choincheap an togra (uas. 2 leathanach A4).

Féach, le do thoil, nótaí ar leith do gach aon scéim i gcóir sonraí na faisnéise a theastaíonn.

  • Iosmhéid de 2 líníochtaí A4 nó léirithe malartacha chun ábharaíocht an togra a chur in iúl. (is féidir leo seo a bheith i bhformaid mhionsonraithe chlostéipe/CD/DVD)
  • Costáil lánfhorbartha.
