Expense Record For Semester 1 At WKU
Situation: After finding out about your ability to work with excel a local college freshmen has asked for your help in designing a worksheet showing projected expenses for the University students' fall semester. The design of the worksheet is based on the Excel Spreadsheet Below.
1) The first step is to launch MS Excel and start a new worksheet.
2) Next, create a title (WKU Semester #1 College Expenses), for this project at the top of the Excel document. Next insert the column and row headings as noted in the spreadsheet above. You may have to adjust the column widths in order to accommodate some of the longer and shorter headings.
3) Format the cells to show the dollar sign ($) (Highlight the cell, then either right click and go to format Cells or use the Format, cells menu)
4) Now enter the data for your first semester of school at WKU:
a) Tuition was a one-time fee which you paid in August($4570)
b) Books were also a one-time fee, also paid in August. ($500)
c) Rent is $400 a month; you also had to pay a $200 dollar damage deposit in your first month along with the normal payment.
d) Utilities are getting more expensive as the cold sets in. (Aug. $75Sept. $75, Oct. $95, Nov. $100, Dec. $125)
e) Food is a constant $240 a month.
f) Gas/Fuel is a constant $150 a month.
g) Parking is a onetime fee for the year paid in Aug.($90)
h) Extra Items (such as clothing, movies, etc) have been $150 a month for the first four months; however this amount increases in December by $200 for your Christmas shopping.
5) Once you have the data filled in, you need to calculate the totals for each month, as well as the totals for each row and include a grand total. Format the spreadsheet to match up with the colors for WKU since most of the prices included are from the cost of attending WKU while living on the Bowling Green campus. Include 2-3 pictures that relate to WKU within the spreadsheet.
