Players’ Locker Room (Men’s and Women’s)

General Description: The locker room shall have eighteen 30” wide by 18” deep by 84” high wood lockers along the exterior walls with no visibility obstructions within the space. The 600 square foot room shall a minimum 10’ floor to ceiling height. Access to the room shall be from a limited access corridor and the room shall have direct access to the Player’s Lounge and the Restroom/Shower. The room shall be in near proximity to the Strength and Conditioning Room, Treatment/Taping/Rehab, Hydrotherapy and Laundry/Equipment Room.

Materials and Finishes: Ceilings shall be 2’ x 2’ acoustic ceiling tiles. Wall finish shall be painted gypsum board and the floor material shall be rubber sports flooring with the team’s logo in the center of the floor. Doors shall be painted plywood with hardwood edges and veneers.

Built-in Furniture/Equipment: The lockers shall be composed of plywood veneers with hardwood edging of maple, cherry, mahogany or other approved wood. They shall have an open front with a vented storage box on the bottom, a lock box and cabinet door on top with a nameplate holder. Provide a 4’ x 6’ greaseboard on one wall.

Special Requirements: All door openings shall be 6’ wide. Add ceiling-mounted task lighting in front of the wall with the grease board. Provide a location for a wall-mounted television monitor.

Restroom/Showers (Men’s and Women’s)

General Description: The Restroom/Showers room shall be 500 square feet with minimum 10’ ceiling heights and contain three individual shower stalls with drying areas, four water closets (two water closets and two urinals for the men’s restroom), four lavatories built into a 38” high counter, and a minimum 5’ wide, 38” high grooming station. The room shall have direct access to the Players’ Locker Room and Player’s Lounge.

Materials and Finishes: Ceilings shall be painted gypsum board, walls shall be a combination of painted gypsum board and ceramic tile and the floor shall be ceramic tile.

Built-in Furniture/Equipment: Toilet stall partitions shall be solid plastic and lavatory and grooming station counters shall be either acrylic polymer or stone. Provide full length mirrors above the counter with lavatories and the grooming station to a height 8’ above the floor.

Special Requirements: All door openings shall be 6’ wide. The grooming station shall have two built-in wall-hung hair dryers. Provide floor drains as required. Provide typical toilet accessories.

Players’ Lounge (Men’s and Women’s)

General Description: The 1,500 square foot Players’ Lounge shall have a minimum 10’ ceiling height and be accessed from either the corridor, Players’ Locker Room or Restroom/Showers. The layout of the space should accommodate areas of lounge furniture and a 4 ½’ x 9’ pool table, three built-in study carrels, a video gaming area and a kitchenette.

Materials and finishes: The ceiling shall be a combination of 2’ x 2’ acoustic ceiling tiles and painted gypsum board, walls shall be painted gypsum board and the floor shall be a combination of hardwood, carpet and stone (in front of the kitchenette). Door(s) shall be painted plywood with hardwood edges and veneers.

Built-in Furniture/Equipment: The kitchenette shall be composed of a minimum 6’ wide by 24” deep by 36 ½” tall base cabinet with a built-in stainless steel two-compartment sink with disposal, under-counter dishwasher, and 38” high countertop of either acrylic polymer or stone and a 12” deep by 36” tall wall cabinet with glass doors. The counter, cabinet and study carrels shall be plywood veneer with hardwood edging and hardwood doors, and the wood and finish shall match the lockers in the Players’ Locker Room.

Special Requirements: Provide electrical outlets over the countertop and at the designated location adjacent to the kitchenette for the full-sized refrigerator. Provide a stone or other cleanable, hard surface back splash over the counter extending up to the cabinets above. Provide under-cabinet lighting. Provide wall-mounted task lighting and surge protected outlets at the study carrels. Provide locations for wall-mounted television monitors in the lounge area and the video gaming area.

Practice Court

General Description:The 11,600 square foot Practice Court shall have a minimum 35’ clear height and only serve as practice facility, with no consideration for assembly functions. The room shall be located in the general proximity of the Players’ Locker Room, Strength and Conditioning Room, Taping/Therapy/Rehab, Hydrotherapy and Laundry/Equipment and shall have direct access to Practice Court Storage.

Materials and Finishes: The ceiling shall be painted exposed structure, the walls shall be painted CMU block and the floor shall be a competition class floor system with 2nd or better grade maple wood with the same structural characteristics of the court in the Siegel Center. The main court shall be striped to exactly replicate the floor in the Siegel Center. Doors shall be painted plywood with hardwood edges and veneers.

Built-in Furniture/Equipment: Provide three wall-hung glass backboards in the shooting areas with adjacent shot clocks for each (portable basketball backboards with shot clocks for main court provided by Owner). Provide a scoreboard with time and score on each end wall for the main court. Provide a sound system with a docking station.

Special Considerations: All door openings shall be 6’ wide. Provide sport lighting to provide even lighting levels on the practice court floor equal in footcandlesto those on the floor of the Siegel Center. While having natural light in the space is desirable, any potential direct sunlight must be sufficiently filtered so as not to interfere with the play of the game. Provide 8’ high wall padding at court ends. Provide a location for a wall-mounted television monitor/smart board with XOS capabilities.

Strength and Conditioning Room

General Description: The 2,000 square foot Strength and Conditioning Room shall have a minimum 15’ clear height. The room should be directly adjacent to the practice court with windows and/or glass doors providing views, and also in the general proximity of the Players’ Locker Room, Taping/Therapy/Rehab, Hydrotherapy and Laundry/Equipment and directly adjacent to the Strength Coach’s Office.

Materials and Finishes: The ceilings shall be painted exposed structure, the walls shall be a combination of painted CMU block with a glass wall between the room and the corridor, and the floor shall be rubber sports flooring designed to withstand impact from free weights. Doors shall be painted plywood with hardwood edges and veneers.

Built-in Furniture/Equipment: Provide an 8’ high x 6’ wide storage cabinet composed of hardwood veneers and hardwood edges and doors with stained finish.

Special Considerations: All door openings shall be 6’ wide. One wall shall have a minimum 8’ high, direct applied mirror. Provide a location for a wall-mounted television monitor. All ceiling lighting shall be indirect. The Contractor shall coordinate with the Owner on the location of floor outlets required for cardio equipment. Natural light is desirable.

Strength Coach’s Office

General Description: The 120 square foot office shall minimum 10’ high ceilings and be directly accessed from the Strength and Conditioning Room and the Practice Court with views into both.

Materials and Finishes: The ceilings shall be 2’ x 2’ acoustic ceiling tiles, walls shall be painted gypsum board and floors shall be carpet. Doors shall be painted plywood with hardwood edges and veneers.

Built-in Furniture/Equipment: N/A

Special Considerations: Provide a minimum 4’x6’ window between the Strength and Conditioning Room and the Strength Coach’s Office. Natural light is desirable.

Training Room

General Description: The 500 square foot space should be configured to accommodate two taping tables, two therapy tables and some free space for rehabilitation use,and some and should have a minimum 12’ high ceiling. The room should be in the general proximity of the Practice Court, Players’ Locker Room and Laundry/Equipment and shall be directly adjacent to and accessible from the Trainer’s Office, Exam Room, Toilet and Hydrotherapy.

Materials and Finishes: The ceiling shall be 2’ x 2’ acoustic ceiling tiles, the walls shall be a combination of painted CMU block (or gypsum board) and glass walls between Hydrotherapy and the corridor, and the floor shall be resilient flooring. Door(s) shall be painted plywood with hardwood edges and veneers.

Built-in Furniture/Equipment: Provide a minimum 6’ long by 24” deep x 34 ½” base cabinet with a plastic laminate countertop with a stainless steel hand washing sink, under-counter dishwasher, with lockable base cabinets below, and an equal length 12” deep by 36” tall painted wall cabinet. All cabinetry shall be painted particle board with hardwood edges and doors.

Special Considerations: Door openings from the corridor and to Hydrotherapy shall be 6’ wide. The Hydrotherapy doors shall be glass. Ceiling lighting shall be indirect. Natural lighting is desirable. Provide a location for a wall-mounted television monitor.

Trainer’s Office

General Description: The 120 square foot office shall minimum 10’ high ceilings and be directly accessed from the Training Room.

Materials and Finishes: The ceilings shall be 2’ x 2’ acoustic ceiling tiles, walls shall be painted gypsum board or CMU block and floors shall be carpet. Doors shall be painted plywood with painted edges and veneers.

Built-in Furniture/Equipment: N/A

Special Considerations: Provide a minimum 4’x6’ window between the Training Room and the Trainer’s Office. Natural light is desirable.

Exam Room

General Description: The 100 square foot room shall minimum 10’ high ceilings and be directly accessed from the Training Room. Layout should include space for a side cabinet and an exam table.

Materials and Finishes: The ceilings shall be 2’ x 2’ acoustic ceiling tiles, walls shall be painted gypsum board or CMU block and floors shall be carpet. Door shall be painted plywood with hardwood edges and veneers.

Built-in Furniture/Equipment: Provide a minimum 63’ long by 24” deep x 34 ½” base cabinet with a plastic laminate countertop with a stainless steel hand washing sink, with lockable base cabinets below, and an equal length 12” deep by 36” tall painted wall cabinet. All cabinetry shall be painted particle board with hardwood edges and doors.

Special Considerations: Ceiling lighting shall be indirect.

Hydrotherapy Room

General Description: The 1,100 square foot Hydrotherapy Room shall have a minimum 12’ high ceiling and shall be directly adjacent to and accessed only from the Training Room with a layout to accommodate the three therapy pools, an extremity pool, ice machine, cooler storage area and drying racks.

Materials and Finishes: The ceilings shall be 2’ x 2’ acoustic ceiling tiles rated for humid conditions, the walls and floor shall be ceramic tile. The wall between Hydrotherapy and the Training Room shall be glass. Door shall be glass.

Built-in Furniture/Equipment: Provide 8’x12’, in-ground hot and cold plunge pools and a physical therapy pool (Swimex). Pool equipment can either be in the floor or in an adjacent room.

Special Considerations: Provide a location and water, electrical connections and drain for a commercial ice machine/bin and an extremity therapy whirlpool tub (provided by Owner). Ceiling lighting shall be indirect.

Player Dining

General Description: The 500 square foot room shall have minimum 10’ high ceilings and shall be located somewhere in the general proximity of, and can be accessed from both of the Players’ Locker Rooms and directly adjacent to and accessible to the Prep Kitchen.

Materials and Finishes: The ceilings shall be 2’ x 2’ acoustic ceiling tiles, the walls shall be painted gypsum board and the floors can either be carpet or hardwood. Doors shall be painted plywood with hardwood edges and veneer.

Built-in Furniture/Equipment: Provide a minimum 8’ long buffet counter/cabinet along the wall adjacent to the Prep Kitchen. The counter top shall be either acrylic polymer or stone and the cabinet below shall be plywood veneer with hardwood edges and hardwood doors, to match the wood and finish of the cabinets in the Players’ Lounge.

Special Considerations: Provide outlets on the wall above the buffet counter/cabinet for warming/buffet serving dishes. Provide a location for a wall-mounted television monitor. Natural light is desirable.

Prep Kitchen

General Description: The purpose of the 300 square foot Prep Kitchen is to receive, temporarily hold and prepare meals to be served in the Player Dining Room. It should have direct access to the dining room and an exterior door leading to a convenient driveway and parking spot for pallet trucks.

Materials and finishes: The ceilings shall be 2’ x 2’ acoustic ceiling tiles, the walls shall be painted gypsum board and the floors shall be VCT. Doors shall be painted plywood with hardwood edges and veneer.

Built-in Furniture/Equipment: Provide a minimum 8’ long by 24” deep x 34 ½” base cabinet with a plastic laminate countertop with a stainless steel, two-compartment, sink with disposal, under-counter dishwasher, and an equal length 12” deep by 36” tall painted wall cabinet. All cabinetry shall be painted particle board with hardwood edges and doors.

Special Considerations: Provide multiple outlets above the countertop for microwave (provided by owner) and other appliances. Provide under-cabinet lighting. Provide a location and electrical connection next to the counter for a 54” commercial refrigerator. Provide minimum 12” high plastic laminate backsplash above counter. Provide a 2’ x 4’ broom closet.

Video Viewing Room

General Description: The 520 square foot Video Viewing Room should be sized as a tiered classroom for 24 seats facing a projection screen (either 3 rows of 8 chairs or 4 rows of 6 chairs) and should bedesigned to provide unobstructed sight lines for a taller than usual audience. The room shall be located in the general proximity of, and can be accessed through corridors from both of the Player Locker Rooms. It should also be directly adjacent to the Video Editing Room. Provide enough room in front of the first row to allow for a podium.

Materials and Finishes: The ceiling shall be 2’ x 2’ acoustic ceiling tiles, walls shall be painted gypsum board and the floor in front of the first row and the aisle(s) shall be carpet and the area under the seats shall be stained concrete. All finishes should be dark colored. Doors shall be painted plywood with hardwood edges and veneer.

Built-in Furniture/Equipment: Provide 24-black leather, 24”-wide custom theater seats with leather armrests and embossed VCU logos and cup holders. The drop-down projection screen shall have a 135” diagonal measurement (81” x 108”) with a smart board behind with XOS capabilities. Provide electrical connection for mounted projector (provided by the Owner).

Special Considerations: Ceiling Lighting should be adjustable. Provide additional ceiling-mounted task lighting to the zone in front of the first row of seating. Provide sound insulation in the walls and above the ceiling. Provide a location for a rack-mounted video system.

Video Editing Room

General Description: The 200 square foot Video Editing Room should be directly adjacent to the Video Viewing Room for server storage.

Materials and Finishes: The ceiling shall be 2’ x 2’ acoustic ceiling tiles, the walls shall be painted gypsum board and the floor shall be carpet. Doors shall be painted plywood with hardwood edges and veneer.

Built-in Furniture/Equipment: Provide a minimum 16’ long by 24” deep by 34 ½ tall plastic laminate covered counter along one wall. Provide and equal length of 12’ deep painted wood shelving (two levels) above the work area.

Special Considerations: Add surge protected outlets at 3’ intervals above the countertop.

Lobby

General Description: The 1,000 square foot lobby shall be a two-story space that will be both a reception area and a hall-of-fame for the basketball program. The hall-of-fame should include the possibility of both wall-mounted XOS capable video wall and freestanding displays/graphics. The entry should include a vestibule with an intercom for visitors. There should be an elevator and an open staircase to take visitors to the coaches’ suites on the second level. Access to the corridor(s) leading to the team facilities should be key-card restricted.

Materials and Finishes: The ceiling shall be a combination of 2’ x 2’acoustic ceiling tiles, painted gypsum board and painted exposed structure. The interior walls shall be primarily painted gypsum board with a custom finish material (as approved by the owner) on one wall, and the exterior wall shall be fully glazed. The floors shall be a combination of stone and maple wood flooring. In some way, the VCU logo should be embedded in the floor. Entry doors shall be glass and all other doors shall be stained plywood with hardwood edges and veneers.
