Sports Series Rules 2016
Prepared by:Brett Read
Sporting Director
14 January 2016
Reviewed and confirmed with club members at the launch meeting for the Sports Series on
27 January 2016.
Preface
The sports series is open to all financial members of the club and is intended to provide an opportunity for club members to enjoy the high performance of their cars and to explore these capabilities in a controlled and managed environment. There is no "panel to panel" racing in the series, it is just you and your car against the clock in a variety of events which includes track sprints, hill climbs and motorkhanas.
The standard of driving and the quality of the competition has grown over many years. The series has been designed in a way that allows drivers of all skill levels to participate in the one event. Fundamental to our club competition is the encouragement of novice drivers and those with limited competition experience. We also have several drivers who compete in other forms of motorsport including circuit racing and tarmac rally. We encourage the open sharing of knowledge and experience to continue to improve the overall standard of our competition.
Thecompetition is divided into classeswhich splits the various Porsche models into classes based on power to weight ratios. The ratiosarecalculatedusingtheweightandkilowattfiguresforthevariousPorsche modelsinanattempttoawardpoints for similar carsoverthesamecourse. The weight and BHP figures are as provided by the magazine "GTPurely Porsche" and are converted to kilowatts using the conversion: 1 BHP = 0.7355 Kilowatts.
Vehicles are listed in model order, starting with the numerous 911 models/derivatives. please advise if any weight or BHP figures require adjustment, or your model is not represented. we shall amend/adjust as required.
In addition to the classes competition there is also the outright competition which recognizes the faster driver/car in the overall competition.
1.SPORTSSERIES Competition
The competition is divided into an outright and vehicle class competition.

Note: The final decision as to which class the car competes in will be at the discretion of the club committee, in line with these rules and the overall "spirit of the series".
1.2Number of Rounds
The series is run over ten (10) rounds in total, and your best six rounds count towards the Outright and the Club Championship awards. Your best eight rounds count for the
Class Champion awards (highest points in each class).
1.3Eligibility
The Club Competition will be open only to financial members of the Porsche Club of WA driving any of the Porsche models listed in Appendix 1 to these Rules or as otherwise specified by the Club Committee.
Members may drive vehicles of another make, but these are not eligible for awards in the competition. The one exception to this rule is the Women’s Plate. Acceptance of non-Porsche entries shall be at the discretion of the Club Committee.
Female club members are automatically eligible for the Women’s Plate competition and do not have to be driving a Porsche. If they are driving a Porsche, they are also automatically competing in the other divisions of the club competition. Non-Porsche cars will still be classed as per their power to weight ratio and will be awarded points towards the Women’s Plate only based on where they notionally placed in that class on the day.
1.4Class Champion
The Class Champion award recognises the best driver in a class. i.e. the driver that scores the highest points in their best eight (8) rounds.

1.6Women’s Championship (Women’s Plate)
The Women’s Championship award recognises the best female driver (highest points scorer based on the Class Competition) in the overall class competition. It is awarded to the female driver that scored the most points in their best six (6) rounds in their class. Competitors in this competition do not have to be driving a Porsche.

1.8Points awarded/championship ladder
Club, women’s plateand outright championship points will be calculated after the event and the results posted on the club website as soon as they are available. An outright, women’s plate and a club championship ladder will be provided. The final two rounds will be withheld, until the presentation at the annual Christmas party.
1.9Registering for the Sports Series
Competitors who enter the Sports Series and compete in the Club Competition must submit the Vehicle Registration Form (Appendix 2) at the beginning of the competition year, or prior to their first event. Points will not be awarded to competitors who have not submitted this form prior to competing.
1.10Modified Vehicles
If any vehicle competing in other than Open class differs from the standard specification of the model designated in its registration form, then such differences must be clearly identified in writing on the registration form or have subsequently been notified in writing to the Sporting Director. The Club Committee will verify eligibility in any class. Any differences may cause the vehicle to be reclassified. In principle improvements to the brakes and suspension that do not modify the attachment points are allowed. Modifications that include modification to the suspension pickup points or geometry may put the car into a higher class. Engine modifications are allowed but BHP gains need to be factored into the power/weight ratio.
2.safety
The Porsche Club of WA strongly recommends the best safety gear/equipment available. As a minimum, you will require non-flammable clothing from ankles to wrists, suitable covered footwear, an "AS1698" approved helmet and in open cars a visor or goggles. The use of HANS devices while not compulsory, is recommended.
Your vehicle must have a securely fastened AS1841 approved 1kg fire extinguisher and a 150mm blue triangle which indicates the position of the battery, as illustrated opposite.
3.Awards
The club has the following awards, which are open to all competitors/club members.
3.1Class Champion Awards
Awarded to the competitor who accumulated the highest number of points in their class. This award is scored over eight events i.e. two rounds are dropped from the total points scored if all 10 rounds were attended. At least one of the rounds counted must either be at Barbagallo or Collie Circuits. Trophies to be presented to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd placed competitors for Class Open Pre, Class Open Post, Class GT, Class A, Class B, Class C and Class D competitors with the highest accumulated points scored.
In the event of a tie then additional rounds will be counted to break the tie. For example, the ninth round will be counted and the highest points scorer wins, if there is still a tie then the tenth round is counted to break the tie. If all ten rounds are counted and there is still a tie then both drivers will be awarded equal placing e.g. equal first, 2nd or 3rd. If we have equal winners for a place e.g. 1st they both receive a 1st place trophy and a 2nd and 3rd place trophy is still awarded.
3.2Club Championship Award - Perpetual Trophy
Awarded to the competitor who accumulated the highest number of class points, from their best six rounds. At least one of the rounds counted must either be at Barbagallo or Collie Circuits. Trophies to be presented to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd placed competitors, including the perpetual trophy to the 1st placed competitor.
In the event of a tie then additional rounds will be counted to break the tie. For example, the seventh round will be counted and the highest points scorer wins, if there is still a tie then the eight round is counted, then the ninth and tenth to break the tie. If all ten rounds are counted and there is still a tie then both drivers will be awarded equal placing e.g. equal first, 2nd or 3rd. If we have equal winners for a place e.g. 1st they both receive a 1st place trophy and a 2nd and 3rd place trophy is still awarded.
3.3Women’s Championship (Women’s Plate) Award
Awarded to the female competitor who accumulated the highest number of class points, from their best six rounds (same as the Club Champion system). At least one of the rounds counted must either be at Barbagallo or Collie Circuits. Trophies to be presented to the 1st placed competitor.
