Additional Searching For Existing AnimalsProcedure

If an animal is not found in the system by any of the following search options be sure to also perform a basic and/or advanced animal search on the Welcome page. Do not assume that the animal is not already in the system if they are not located by one of the options listed below.
- To search by Microchip Number:
- On the Welcome page scroll to the top until you see the Search Menu.
- Click on the Microchip Searchlink. This will move you down to the Microchip Search section of the Welcome page.
- Enter the microchip number.
- Click Search.
- If a record is found do one of the following:
- Click on the Editlink under Person to access the owner’s details page.
- Click on the Editlink under Animal to access the animal’s details page.
- To search by License Number:
- On the Welcome page scroll to the top until you see the Search Menu.
- Click on the License Owner Searchlink. This will move you down to the License Search section of the Welcome page.
- Enter the license number.
- Click on the down arrow in the Search For: field to indicate if you want to access just the owner’s record, just the animal’s record or both.
- Place a check mark in the box. This will enable the system to search ALL license numbers that are in the system.
- Click Search*.
- *If a record is found for Animal and Owner Detailsdo one of the following:
- Click on the View Personlink under Person to access the owner’s details page.
- Click on the View Animallink under Animal to access the animal’ details page.
- *If a record is found for Animal Details:
- Click on the View Animallink under Animal to access the animal’ details page.
- *If a record is found for Owner Details:
- Click on the View Personlink under Person to access the owner’s details page.
- To search by an existing Person record:
- Search and access the person’s record.
- Locate the Person Menu at the top of the page.
- To display animals the person has brought into the shelter that are currently in shelter care, click on the List Animals In Shelter Carelink.
- To display animals the person has at home or is responsible for, such as adopted animals, click on the List Animals Responsible Forlink.
- To display all animal records that have been linked to the person’s record (recommended) at one time or another, in other words, to display a complete history, click on the List All Animals *link.
- *To the right of each listed record is a check box. If a check displays this indicates that the animal is still linked to the person’s record. If the check mark is absent, the animal is currently linked to a different person record (some reasons would be adopted, reclaimed, ownership transferred, etc).
