12-Week Industrial Internship Programme (IIP)
THE PROGRAMME IN BRIEF
Background
Industrial Internship Programme (IIP) is offered as an elective course for 3rd Year students from the Division of Mathematical Sciences from the following tracks: Pure Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, and Statistics. The students will receive a Bachelor of Science (Hons) degree at the end of the 4-year programme. The details of the undergraduates’ course information can be found on the Division’s website at this URL: http://www.spms.ntu.edu.sg/MAS/Undergraduates/MASUndergradModules.html
Internship Period
The internship period is a 12-week period from May to July.
Allowance & Working Hours
The allowance to be paid to the student will be determined by the organisation. As a guide, most organisations are paying between $800 and $1500 per month. Employers are exempted from making CPF contributions on student’s allowance.
Students will follow the normal working hours of the organisation on a five-day or five-and-a-half day week basis.
Assessment of Student’s Performance at Work
Organisations should assign a supervisor who will be responsible for the students in terms of work allocation, guidance as well as to assess the performance of the students.
The supervisor will need to complete an evaluation form at the end of internship to assess the performance of the students.
Work Permit
Organisation taking in a foreign student who is a full-time matriculated or registered student of NTU for local attachment under the Industrial Internship programme is exempted from applying for a work permit with respect of that foreign student.
Insurance
Students are insured against industrial hazards or accidents through a Group Personal Accident Insurance Scheme arranged by NTU. The University has also taken up a Public Liability Policy Insurance to indemnify organisations against claims and damages arising as a result of providing such training facilities.
Certificate of Accomplishment
Upon completion of the attachment programme, students will be awarded Certificates of Accomplishment, jointly signed by the Director of Career & Attachment Office, NTU and a nominated representative of the organisation.
Procedure for Participation
Organisation is required to provide NTU with a training programme for the student(s) by completing and returning the DPA.F10 and DPA/30 forms. If the programme offered by the organisation is suitable for IIP, it would be put up to the students for selection.
