No. 494November/December2015
The GVRA Committee wishes you all the best for the festive season. Special thanks go to all our road reps, who have given up their time to support the Association by delivering these sheets to you throughout the year.
GVRA Committee Meeting 21 October
- Car crime and theft from cars continues unabated. Please ensure that no valuables are left on show and vehicles are secured. To deter break-ins, ensure that your property is well lit when you are out.
- Work to clear the grassy bank near the mini-roundabout on Goldstone Crescent and tree trimming in this road will continue as labour becomes available – and the weather allows. We may need to ask for volunteers to help..
- We decided not to pursue the idea of using stencils and water-soluble paint to highlight dog fouling on pavements as there is no one particular area where this is a major problem.
- The majority of paving slabs by the houses near the Engineerium in Woodland Drive are badly cracked and broken. The Council will be asked to attend to them.
- Collecting subscriptions by direct debit may be expensive. The Treasurer is to investigate using the BACS system.
BilingualSchool
The building of the school in the Council’s ex-depot, above the miniature railway in HovePark, is nearing completion. It was planned to open by September of this year but, due to planning delays, now expects to open its doors on 24 February 2016 with 270 children on-site initially, increasing eventually to 630.
An Open Day is being held on8Dec from 4 pm -7 pm when there will be two talks from the Head Teacher, Ms Wendy King, at 4.30pm and 6:00pm. Please note that the building will not be finished by this date and so not all of the school will be

accessible. Only a small area will be available to viewhich will give you an idea of how the new school will look when it opens. Go to where you will be able to book an Open Day place. The address is The Droveway, Hove, BN3 7QA
We are very concerned about the possible parking problems that an increasingly large influx of extra vehicles will bring. Deterrents will be placed in The Droveway on the approach to the school, to stop cars from driving down to the site. Removable bollards will be situated opposite the entrance to the Engineerium and the pavement will be widened at the lower end.
There are only nine car parking spaces for staff, plus three disabled bays. The school is going to stagger the arrival and departure times for pupils in the hope of alleviating any problems.

We are short of Road Reps again!
I would be very pleased to hear from you if you would carry out this vital job for the GVRA. A Road Reps ‘job’ entails the delivery of the GVRA News Sheet (ten per year – approximately half an hour per delivery) and the collection ofthe £1 annual subscription from April next year
We are looking for two reps, one to cover just 7 houses at the bottom of Sandringham Drive and another to cover 17 houses towards the bottom of Woodland Avenue. Please contact Arthur Green at 01273 506068 or email if you can help. Thank you.
HovePark Cafe
A planning application has been submitted to extend the popular café in HovePark. The application is to provide a larger indoor eating area and extend the kitchen facilities. If you are interested in viewing the proposals, go to the Council website, click on ‘Planning’, then ‘Planning applications’ and input the planning application number ‘BH2015/03585. It is listed under ‘The Pavilion Tea House’
The feeding of foxes and gulls
I have been asked to include a plea for members not to throw food onto gardens and patios due to health considerations. Foxes, pigeons, seagulls and rats are attracted to the food and pose a serious health hazard, particularly to children who love to play outside.
