1. In Chapter 1, Draper/Ramsay’s text outlines the elements of a “good society” setting the standard by which to measure political regimes throughout the text. Do you think this approach that will engage students’ interest?

2. Also in Chapter 1, Draper and Ramsay introduce the “capabilities approach” developed by Amartya Sen and Martha Nussbaum and discuss how this approach will be utilized throughout the text. Do you think students would benefit from this approach?

3. Chapter 1 also discusses the importance of institutions and argues that different institutional arrangements produce different results in terms of citizens’ ability to live well. Do you find this coverage this useful? Why or why not?

4. Chapter 5, “Regimes in Rich Democracies” examines three types of regimes allowing students to see common attributes. Do you think this type of presentation will help your students make comparisons between political systems?

5. The table of contents indicates which countries are covered in brief case studies, in Chapters 6, 9, and 10. Are these the countries you’d most likely cover? Is there another country you would have addressed?
