Physical processing of sound recording compact discs for Music Library
ITEM TYPE FOR MUSIC LIBRARY CD: MUSIC MEDIA
ITEM TYPE FOR MUSIC LIBRARY REF CD: REFERENCE
1) Remove plastic piece from the inside back cover of the cd jewel case. Place security strip on the back of the plastic piece in an “L” shape. Snap plastic piece back into jewel case. Place security strip in accompanying booklet if there is one.
2) Write “CSU Music Library CD” or “CSU Music Library Ref CD RCD,” whichever is applicable, and the accession number with a fine point gold pen on the clear space around the hole of the cd(s).
3) Print accession number label with “Music Library CD” or “Music Library Ref CD,” whichever is applicable, above the accession number. Ex.:
Music Music
Library Library
CD Ref
704 CD
RCD 21
4) Place accession number label on front upper left corner of the jewel case (and container, if applicable). If you have a thick accompanying booklet that is not housed inside the jewel case, place accession number label on upper front left corner of
accompanying booklet. For smaller booklets housed in the jewel case, write the location & accession number on the front upper left corner (or where it will fit without interfering with important information). If there is a booklet inside the jewel case, change the number of “Pieces” in the item record to “2.”
For boxed sets, print one spine label for the spine of the box (or the front upper left corner), one spine label for each CD in the box, and one for the accompanying booklet.
5) Place barcode on front upper center of the jewel case (or container, if applicable)
6) Place a date due sticker running vertically on the front left side of the jewel case
(or container, if applicable), below the accession number label. If there are multiple discs and/or an accompanying booklet, write X discs + 1 booklet (with X being the number of discs) at the top of the date due slip in red ink. For boxed sets, add “in box” to the statement of pieces, e.g. “2 CDs + 1 booklet in box.” Do not count the box as a “Piece” in the item record.
COMPACT DISCS GOING TO MUSIC LIBRARY REFERENCE MEDIA – CD COLLECTION DO NOT RECEIVE A DATE DUE STICKER. Reference compact discs receive a “For Reference—Not to be taken from the room” sticker on the front cover of the jewel case.
7) If there is no cover on the back of a clear jewel case, cut out a section of white pressure-sensitive label to fit the back of the case (to cover up the security strip).
8) CDs accompanying a book or score. PLEASE REFER TO PROCEDURES FOR ACCOMPANYING ITEMS FOR THE MUSIC LIBRARY for complete instructions. If the item is an accompanying item to a book or score, make a sticker for the CD reading: “Accompanies Music Library [call no. of book].” If the title of the accompanying CD is different from the book title, use “Accompanies book with the title [title of book] shelved Music Library [call no. of book].” Affix the sticker to the bottom center of the front cover of the jewel case. Make a sticker for the book reading: “Accompanied by Music Library CD [accession no. of CD].” If the titles differ, use “Accompanied by CD with the title [title of CD] shelved Music Library CD [accession no. of CD].”
