Foothills United Way brings community together for largest single-day volunteer effort
Foothills United Way is hosting its 21st annual Day of Caring event, which is the largest single-day volunteer effort in Boulder and Broomfield counties.
BOULDER, Colorado- Foothills United Way, a local nonprofit organization that serves Boulder and Broomfield counties, will hold its largest event and Boulder and Broomfield counties largest single-day volunteer effort, the 21st annual Day of Caring 2015, Friday, September 11 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. with a picnic afterwards at Gateway Park, 4800 North 28th Street, Boulder, Colorado, 80301.
“Our LIVE UNITED theme is embodied in the Day of Caring because a thousand folks are coming together for a common purpose” said CEO Doug Yeiser of Foothills United Way. “University students, community groups and caring individuals from businesses will unite to accomplish amazing work that makes our community stronger.”
Day of Caring offers participants a chance to learn about local nonprofits, experience our community spirit first-hand and feel good about giving back.
“Day of Caring is a great demonstration of the generous spirit in this region,” Yeiser said. “Whether volunteering on this day or in response to flood or fire or an individual family’s crisis, this community repeatedly has shown there is strength in neighbors and numbers.”
Day of Caring has more than 1,000 volunteers registered. Community groups, University of Colorado at Boulder students and approximately 30 businesses will be participating in the event. Event volunteers will be helping 40 nonprofit agencies with various projects across Boulder and Broomfield counties. These community projects consist of landscaping, painting, harvesting, building, refurbishing and more.
In 2014, approximately 800 volunteers came out for the Day of Caring. Volunteers completed projects for 36 local organizations and contributed 3,164 hours of volunteer time. The volunteer time totals an economic value of $79,416.
Day of Caring is supported by Ball Corporation, IBM, Medtronic, Corden-Pharma, Lexmark, Mountainside Medical, Prairie Mountain Media, Holland & Hart, Boulder Magazine, Sandler Training, Ben & Jerry’s, Pasta Jay’s and Gateway Fun Park.
