98 Bay County Blizzard Squirt AA Team Guidelines:
1) Positive Attitude and Behavior - This is for players and parents as well. Having a good attitude rubs off on everyone, players included, as much as a bad attitude. Parents need to encourage good sportsmanship through our actions by treating all players, coaches, officials, other parents, spectators, and the facilities we skate in with respect. These are things that will be enforced by all the rinks that we play in as well as the coaching staff. We already know that other teams are watching us just as we are watching them. We need to remember that our children play hockey for their enjoyment, not ours.
2) 24 hour rule - Due to the nature of the game, emotions run high for the players and coaching staff. If there are things that you would like to discuss with the coaching staff, it is in everyone's best interest to "sleep on it" and then let me know that you have something you want to discuss the next day. I have an open door policy and can be reached by phone or can discuss issues at the rink, in a private location. It is important to bring issues out into the open so that I as a coach can give you the rationale for my decisions and actions and you as the parent can give me feedback on the player's feelings. I’ll conduct regular meetings with the whole team if there are any problems that arise during the season. Keeping all lines of communication open is a goal for our coaching staff throughout the season.
3) Playing Time - It is my hope that all the players have fun and learn from every game, win or lose. As the head coach, it is my responsibility to make decisions regarding positions, lines, and playing time. It is my feeling and philosophy that this is a team game. Games are played by a team, not individuals. It is my goal that all players will enjoy equitable playing time. Under certain circumstances, should a decision need to be made regarding playing time, I will be happy to discuss it in a calm and proper manner (as with all discussions, please reference the 24 hour rule). Our plans are to be a competitive travel hockey team with all players included in shifts during games but there will be situations when ice time is not equal.
4) Games and Practices -It is both the parent's and the player's responsibility to let me know if you will not be able to attend a practice or a game. **Please let me know either in person or by phone at least 24 hours prior to the practice or game. As skating as a team is vital to team development and makes the team better, those who miss practices and/or games may, at the decision of the head coach, *miss ice time in the next game.
5) No coaching your child from the stands or the glass. This holds true for games as well as practices. I will do the coaching – you do the parenting. Players *ice time may be affected negatively if this becomes an issue.
6) Players must arrive at all practices 30 minutes prior to its start time and all games 45 minutes prior to its start time (except for Tournament games which arrival time is 1 hour prior to the start of a game). Players*ice time may be affected negatively if this becomes an issue. **Again if these time frames can not be met for any reason I expect some form of contact letting me know.
7) Intentional penalties by players will not be tolerated. Players *ice time may be affected negatively if this becomes an issue.
8) Parents must leave the locker room 15 minutes before the start of each game and are not allowed in the locker until the Coaching Staff had time to talk to the players after the game is over. This will allow me time to discuss what I need with the players about the game. Our Team stretching routine will trigger this is the time for the coaching staff.
Additional Notes refer to asterisks above:
* Missed Ice Time for players:This will be discussed before games if known ahead of time and after games if it happens during game play with the parents and player
