I move that the Senate purchase 500 red key tags with the SGA logo on the outside and the phrase “Drive Safely” on the inside for a total of $380.72. This cost includes shipping and would come from the Public Relations line item of the budget. This will be a useful recruiting tool as well as a helpful reminder to our students to derive safety on and off campus. This item will be given to students at promotional events for the SGA and will be useful in keeping track of one’s keys. The funds for this motion do not exceed $500. Passed and signed.

I move that the Senate purchase 5 new M8 Charging Stations for the lobbies of the resident halls. The cost will be $3,675.00. This will come from the Senator Projects line item of the budget. We have discovered a need for them in the resident halls. Students will be able to charge their devices more effectively. This will come from the Senator Projects line item portion of the budget. The cost will be $3,675.00 ($699 each plus $180 for shipping). Passed but Vetoed.

I move that the Senate accept the SGA President Tommy Thibodeaux’s appointment of Jennifer Duthu for the position of Senator of the College of Nursing and Allied Health. Passed and signed.

I move that the Senate approve the 2017 Spring Budget. Tabled.

I move that the Senate purchase 1,000 Z-Cards for a total cost of $2,699. The Z-Cards would be purchased to provide important information such as contact information for campus departments, the Alma Mater, etc. including a map of campus to new students and visitors to our campus. The Freshmen attending events such as Orientation or campus tours would benefit from the information provided in the Z-Card. The cost of $2,699 includes shipping and would be taken from the Public Relations Line Item of the budget. Tabled.

I move that the Senate purchase 50 red flash drives with the SGA logo on the front for a total of $424.98. This cost includes shipping and would come from the Public Relations Line Item of the budget. The flash drives would be a useful tool for students saving their work on their flash drives in case they have to use a different computer to complete their school work. This item will be given to students at promotional events for SGA and will be a safe tool for students to keep track of their work everywhere they go. The funds for this motion does not exceed $500. Passed and signed.

I move that the Senate amend Article III, The Legislative Branch, Section 4, Meetings, Number 1 of the Constitution of the Nicholls State University Student Government Association. The amendment eliminates the summer meetings. Due to the absence of SGA officers throughout the summer, quorum is not present to pass any motions or to conduct sufficient business matters.
1. “There shall be at least one weekly meeting of the Student Senate, day and time to be set by the Vice President with the approval of the Senate, excluding mid-term and final exams, holidays and summer session.”
Furthermore, calling an election of the student body to approve the said amendment to the Constitution of the Student Government Association which must be approved by a majority vote of the students voting and having that said election during the Spring 2017 elections. Tabled.

I move that the Senate sponsor 10 tickets for students to attend the Women’s History Month Luncheon on March 7, 2017. The tickets are $16.50 each and the cost will not exceed $165.00. Funds should be taken out of the Senator Projects Line Item of the budget. It is very important for students to appreciate history and understand how far women have come through the generations. This luncheon will give students the opportunity to celebrate Women’s History Month without financial burden. Ten students will be able to attend this important luncheon for free. They will acquire a greater appreciation of the Women’s History Month. Funds needed for this motion will not exceed $165.00. Passed and signed.

I move that the Senate approve the rental of the Party Deck at the Baseball Field for the amount of $500. The game will be held on February 23rd at 7:00 p.m. for the Mardi Gras Invitational. SGA is promoting student attendance at athletic events to support our athletes. SGA will provide vouchers for students attending and will also be provided 10 to 15 tickets to invite students from the area who are not enrolled at Nicholls yet. It will also include 4 PA announcements recognizing SGA’s support of athletics and camera air time on COX Sports Television. The funds would come from the Tailgating Line Item of the budget.
