Position: Director of Promotion & Outreach

The New York Animal Agriculture Coalition is currently seeking a full-time Director of Promotion & Outreach to aid in its statewide advocacy efforts and enhance the reach of this farmer founded not-for-profit organization. This is a new position, which will work with and report to NYAAC’s Executive Director, as well as its board, which is made up of representatives from American Dairy Association & Dairy Council, Cayuga Marketing LLC, Farm Credit East, the New York Corn & Soybean Growers Association, New York Farm Bureau, Northeast Dairy Producers Association and Pro-Dairy. The position is remote and can be based anywhere in New York from a home office or place of business.

Applicants must be passionate, creative and self-motivated individuals with great communication and interpersonal skills in order to carry out the organization’s ambitious mission, which is to enhance the public’s understanding of and appreciation for animal agriculture by fostering a dialogue with consumers, engagement with farmers and cooperation among members of the state’s dairy industry.

Specific Job Responsibilities:

  • Create written documents (articles, letters, grants, posts and more) in an articulate manner that is concise, grammatically correct, appropriate for the audience and pleasing to the reader.
  • Maintain and contribute tothe organization’s blogsite, utilizing WordPress.
  • Help maintain the organization’s social media pages, monitoring posts, creating original content and encouraging others to engage in conversations.
  • Create professional presentations for a variety of audiences and deliver them with passion, customizing the message and tone for those in attendance.
  • Help oversee the coordination and operation of the Dairy Cow Birthing Center at the New York State Fair, which involves animal handling, sponsorship solicitation, volunteer recruitment, on-site logistics and management.
  • Assist in fundraising, writing grants and researching new opportunities.
  • Create newsletters and promotional materials using graphic design software.
  • Carry out all functions of event planning from invites to day-of coordination to follow up surveys of participants.
  • Create and adhere to organization and project budgets.
  • Respond to inquiries promptly and serve as a resource to others.
  • Provide photography services at dairy farms and events as needed.
  • Maintain awareness of current issues in animal agriculture through communication with farms, farm visits and attendance at industry functions.
  • Communicate regularly with executive director, board of directors, member organizations and sponsors to convey our vision and progress.
  • Work with and manage subcontractors as needed.
  • Help prepare for, attend and report at organization board meetings

Education, Experience & Skills:

  • A minimum of a four-year degree from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of three years of professional experience.
  • Knowledge of animal agriculture is preferred, but not required.
  • Experience in public relations, graphic design, communication, fundraising, event planning, charitable organizations and/or advocacy is preferred.
  • Must be computer literate, have access to the internet and proficient in Microsoft Office, as well as have an active presence on social media.
  • Must be motivated to work independently, as well as part of a larger team.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, a vehicle and a willingness to travel, which may involve overnight stays.
  • Must be able to perform moderate physical labor, lifting upwards of 50 pounds.

Salary & Benefits:

  • The position is an “exempt” salaried position, starting at $53,000 and commensurate with relevant experience and skills of the applicant.
