Job Title: Employability Manager (The Way Ahead)
Pay: Scale P02 Pt 37 (£31,846 pro rata)
Hours: Part-time (16 hours, 2 days per week)
Line Manager: Director of Employability and Business Development
Location: 8 - 10 Tudor Rd, Hackney, London, E9 7SN
Summary of Role
‘The Way Ahead’ is City and Hackney Mind’s new Big Lottery funded 10 week Employability service.
Via a series of intensive 10 week programmes, the aim of the service is to improve people’s educational ability, employability, confidence and mental wellbeing, so that they are ‘job ready’ or able to progress into further training or education at the end of the programme.
The Employability Manager will manage The Way Ahead team consisting of a Senior Employment Adviser, Trainee Employment Adviser, Trainee Welfare Rights Adviser and sessional tutors to deliver Basic Skills and IT training to adults.
They will effectively plan, deliver and monitor the delivery of a 10 week employability programme including Basic Skills and IT classes, making the maximum use of the financial, staffing and physical resource available.
Main Tasks
To provide line management to the Way Ahead team, undertake annual performance appraisals; ensure that all staff are appropriately inducted, supported and trained.
To facilitate regular team meetings for staff to ensure clear communication and dissemination of information
To organise, deliver and monitor the delivery of three 10 week employability programmes a year that includes training in Basic Skills, ICT, Work Skills and Wellbeing
To support the process of ensuring the project achieves its’ outcomes, within budget and timeframe.
To write an end of project evaluation report
To ensure that the individual support needs of learners are identified and met in relation to their attendance of the programme.
To ensure that all relevant paperwork is completed and submitted to the Big Lottery, examination bodies and other stakeholders in a timely fashion.
To be responsible for all aspects of Quality Assurance within the service, including conducting regular formal observations of tutors
To be responsible for the recruitment and selection of project staff in conjunction with the Director of Employability and Business Development
To be proactive in identifying and meeting the training needs of staff
To manage project finances and budget
To present at meetings and to forums as appropriate
To develop effective links with external organisations to ensure relationships with local services are mutually supportive and beneficial
To design and implement effective administrative systems to support and monitor project work
To compile quarterly and annual monitoring reports for the service as necessary, including self-assessment Reports for the Big Lottery
To organise and chair regular team meetings
To keep abreast of current developments in the area of employment, education, training and mental health
General
To comply with, promote, and contribute to the writing and development of, City and Hackney Mind's Vision, Philosophy, Aims and Objectives and with all organisational systems, policies and procedures.
In accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, to take responsibility for your own health and safety at work and that of any staff, service users or visitors you are working with, and to report any risks or potential hazards to the Health and Safety Representative.
To keep records and statistics for dissemination to effectively monitor the service, ensuring that all files and information is kept in accordance with City and Hackney Mind's policy on confidentiality
To be administratively self-servicing
To liaise with other City and Hackney Mind projects and staff from partner agencies and external stakeholders to facilitate and maintain effective links.
To attend and participate in staff meetings, contributing to discussions and giving reports if needed.
To attend supervision, appraisal meetings and appropriate internal and external training courses as approved by your line manager.
To attend City and Hackney Mind staff away days.
To undertake any other tasks and duties commensurate with the post as directed by the Director of Employability
PERSON SPECIFICATION (E Essential, D Desirable)
1. Significant proven experience of leading and managing teams in target driven environments, ideally within the specialist employment sector and preferably supporting people with mental health problems or disadvantaged people. (E)
2. A proven track record of setting and achieving targets in a project management role. (D)
3. Experience of managing budgets and finance. (D)
4. Experience of producing Quantitative and Qualitative evaluations and project monitoring data. (E)
5. Demonstrable experience of reviewing the development needs of individuals and accessing appropriate coaching, mentoring and training in order to improve performance continuously. (D)
6. Demonstrable understanding of the issues facing people with mental health issues and/or poor mental health and those looking for work. (E)
7. SKILLS
8. Excellent communication skills with the ability to adapt to a wide range of communication and learning styles. (E)
9. Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, specifically around diplomacy, listening, questioning, networking and building relationships. (E)
10. The ability to drive and inspire others to exceed goals and targets. (E)
11. Ability to organise people and workloads to meet required targets and deadlines consistently. (E)
