· PhD Research – Global Agriculture, Sustainable Agriculture & Postharvest Technology: “Training programs in sustainable agriculture for post harvest loss minimization and storage: A case study in Ethiopia.” The research was on management of pests, diseases, weeds and environmental problems associated with crops and produce losses in fields of production and storage. The study used a series of adult educational programs conducted in a developing country as a case study of food production challenges and how these challenges could be met. The specific objectives of the study were to describe a program in sustainable agriculture in Ethiopia, identify problems described by participants in postharvest technology and to develop an improved program model for the delivery of the technical information related to postharvest technology in sustainable agricultural practices.
· MS Research - Weed Science - Variable Rate Herbicide Application (VRA): “Influence of seed bank augmentation on performance of metolachlor.”
The need to apply pesticides in a way that enhances a clean environment and better herbicide delivery methods are needed to reduce herbicide output into the environment. Variable rate application ensures that pesticides are applied only when and where they are needed across the field. GPS, GIS and equipment that can regulate flow rates are among the latest technologies that have come up for VRA application. My research entailed a study to evaluate the feasibility of this sophisticated technology, introduced recently to farmers in the Mid-Western USA.
· MS Research - Plant Pathology - creative component on post-harvest loss minimization in grain crops, legumes, fruits, flowers and vegetables in Ethiopia. Research information was gathered as I conducted training programs for cooperative managers and field trips made to farmers’ fields.
