Update on IDAVOAD Website

Levi Claussen provided an update on the continued improvements to the IDAVOAD website. All documents (agendas, meeting minutes, conference information, etc.) are always posted on the website. Volunteer Tracking Forms have also been posted on the site and are available to download.

Update on National VOAD Conference

Mary Marsh and Dan Gasiorowski attended the 2017 National VOAD Conference in Texas. Dan reported that the term COAD (Community Organizations Active in Disaster) is in use once again. He also reported that there was a lot of discussion about effective communication tools used during a disaster including social media; Facebook, Twitter, etc.

Mary reported that she attended a great workshop on Long-Term Recovery and recommended that we may want to bring this presentation to our Annual IDAVOAD conference this summer. Mary will reach out and see if this is a possibility and work with the conference planning committee.

Nomination Committee

With Wade Gayler’s resignation as Chair, Dan Gasiorowski is now the acting Chair. With this, there is an open position as Vice-Chair. A committee has been formed to gather nominations to fill the Vice-Chair position. The committee includes; Dave Tish (Lead), Tiffany Neilson, and Dave McCune.

Wade Gayler was nominated and accepted the new position as the Disaster Committee Chair.

Flood Response

Myla Jeffries and Crash Marusich from Ada County Emergency Management gave an update on the flood response activities happening in Ada County (and Canyon County). As of May 25th, the Boise River has been flowing above flood stage for ~103 days. Mitigation efforts include but are not limited to; placing ~600 feet of flood barriers to prevent a pit capture at the SunRoc gravel pit, closure of greenbelt sections, regular monitoring for debris and downed trees, sandbagging at multiple locations to protect property and shore up river banks (~72,000 sandbags have been issued in Ada County alone).

Throughout the response, many VOAD agencies have been involved and provided invaluable help filling multiple direct requests to fill needs!

Discussion continued with future possible response needs and how IDAVOAD agencies may be able to assist with post-flood clean-up.

REMINDER – If part of this response, please keep track of all volunteer hours, resources used, and services provided. Volunteer Tracking Forms are available on the IDAVOAD website.
