NOTES FROM MR. C

It never seems to amaze me how time flies by so quickly. The first marking period is over and we are almost mid-way through the second marking period, parent/teacher conferences are finished and all of the turkey and stuffing has been eaten and we all have begun our Christmas/Holiday shopping! By the time you receive this there will be only 3 weeks left to finish your holiday shopping! Hopefully we will have a very snowy winter, unlike like last winter, as you all know how happy that makes Mr. C. Keeping this in mind, please continue to monitor your child’s academic progress during this busy time before the holidays. With all of the holiday distractions and winter sports season beginning, it is very easy to miss a homework assignment or study for a test. Please review daily your child’s planner for upcoming tests and assignments and continue staying in touch with their teacher if you have any questions or concerns. Finally, on behalf of the all of us here at West Hanover, as well as our families, I would like to wish all of the students and their families a safe and happy holiday season! Enjoy time spent with your family and safe travel to all! One other thing:

LET IT SNOW, LET IT SNOW, LET IT SNOW!

“MR.C.” "LEARN LIKE A CHAMPION TODAY!"

LITERACY LAB

As part of the RTII Skills groups that occur at West Hanover, some students attend the Literacy Lab in order to practice reading fluency. We have two grade levels that are utilizing the Literacy Lab this year; 3rd and 5th grades. At this time, we are in need of volunteers to help out with our 5th grade group, which meets from 3:00 to 3:30 on Cycle Days 1-3. If you are able to help out on one of those days, please contact me as soon as possible. You could help out in the Literacy Lab and then pick your child up at the end of school. If you are available please contact Mrs. Hisiro at the school (657-3210, x89333) or at .

WILDCAT SKI CLUB (Skiing and riding at a group discount rate.)

Do you love winter and the snow as much as Mr. C. does, even if we do not get enough of both? Do you love to ski or snowboard? If your answer to any of these questions is yes, then the WILDCAT SKI CLUB is for you! This is the only elementary Ski Club in the district and it is open to anyone: teachers, parents, students, friends and relatives. The club was organized to facilitate discounted group rates to anyone regardless of age or experience. If you are interested in more information on the cost of the different packages, please contact Mr. C. at the school. While there is no cost to join the WILDCAT SKI CLUB, the NCC’s are only sold through ski clubs and schools.

Please consider participating in our next Election Day Bake and Sub Sale on May 21st.

SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR

Thank you to everyone who assisted in making this fall’s book fair such a success. Despite an unexpected schedule change of Family Night (two years in a row) we sold over $6000 worth of books in just two days. This has allowed us to purchase over $1800 worth of scholastic books for the library and over $1800 worth of books and magazines for the classrooms at WH as well as purchasing book fair prizes to promote the upcoming book fairs at West Hanover. A special thank you to The Manor Restaurant, KL Nails, Thirty-One Gifts (Jenn Lock) and American Pie for donating raffle items. These items assisted us in collecting just over $300 for All for Books! West Hanover should be proud of the way our students donate to others in need! The committee looks forward to bringing the Buy One/Get One Free Scholastic Fairy to you this May! We hope to see you then!

SCHOOL STORE

We plan to have school store items available for purchase at Santa’s Work Shoppe on November 30th and December 1st. This will also give parents an opportunity to see the items we sell at the schools store. Again, many thanks to the fifth graders who work hard to keep the school store up and running! Please help your child remember their scheduled day to work. Any questions or concerns can be directed to Kelly Gerard at .

SERVICE PROJECT

We have completed several service projects so far this year. The food we collected went directly to the LifePointeChurch in WestHanoverTownship to help feed local families. The Humane Society collection has just finished up…thank you to all for your generous donations. The students collected $205.39 for the Humane Society. If anyone has a charity or idea we can work with, please contact Sue Pazuchanics at .

SPIRIT WEAR

The Wildcat shirts are in and will be distributed after Thanksgiving. Look for information soon on product sales for the holiday season.

STAFF APPRECIATION COOKIE EXCHANGE

The PTA Staff Appreciate Committee would like your help in donating cookies to give to the West Hanover Staff and Bus Drivers for Christmas. Let’s really show these amazing men and women how much we appreciate their hard work! Our goal is to give each staff member two dozen cookies. This means we need approximately 120 dozen!! They don’t have to be fancy, they don’t even have to be homemade. Please sign up to donate cookies in appreciation for all our staff’s tireless giving. Please email Becky Weiman by December 1st, 2012 at with your name, type, and number of cookies you can donate. We can also use individually wrapped chocolates!

TALENT SHOW

It is the time of year to start thinking about the annual West Hanover Elementary Talent Show! Over the Winter break practice your singing, dancing, magic, instruments, puppetry, or any other great talent and be ready to sign up in January for the show. Look for sign up sheets on eBackpack and the PTA website after the first of the year.
