WOUND CARE INSTRUCTIONS

1. Keep the wound covered with the dressing applied today at Dr. Jaffe’s office and do NOT allow the wound to get wet for 24 hours.

2. After 24 hours gently remove the dressing. You may soak the wound in water to remove the dressing if it wants to stick.

3. Gently wash the wound with warm water.

4. Dry the area with a clean towel, then using a Q-tip apply a small amount of petroleum jelly (vaseline ointment) to the wound site and then cover with a new Band-aid.

5. Then, once or twice a day for the next 7-10 days (and anytime the wound gets wet), clean the wound with warm water, dry it, and apply petroleum jelly (vaseline ointment) and a new Band-aid.

6. If stitches were used to close your wound, you can clean it and change the Band-aid in the same way described above.

Be sure to keep your appointment with our office to have the stitches removed.

7. The wound site may be slightly pink at the edges and tender for 2-3 days, but if you notice increasing redness, swelling, pain, blisters, irritation, pus formation or an unusual odor, please call our office immediately.

On rare occasions Band-aids can cause allergic skin reactions (increasing redness, bumps, blisters, itching). If the area around your wound seems to be getting worse, please call our office right away.
